Great stuff. Hopefully I can squeeze enough out of the budget to grab a couple of these.

I think you're missing a few, though. I know "Broadcast News" is also part of the sale. I recently grabbed it for around this price with a 50% off B&N coupon, otherwise that'd be first on my list. Eying "The Red Shoes" and "Modern Times" at the moment.

EDIT: More comprehensive list here, though it also appears to be missing a few ("Yi Yi" for instance). Best bet is to manually search for Criterions on your wish list and see if they're part of the sale.

I'm only all about American Criterion movies (which I didn't seem to see any on this list..but I may be wrong)

I kinda lost a little hope and faith in the company when I noticed 'Criterion edition' movies popping up on Netflix streaming..I mean for all the video/audio quality they stand behind, streaming it to as low as a 3mb connection seems a little off..

As soon as I made a commitment not to buy any more games until my backlog is gone...
In for Blow Out and possibly Le Cercle Rouge.
first! i hate criterions, why bother to post this, its not a deal. meh.
first! i hate internet trolls, why bother to post in a thread about something you hate, you have no penis. meh.

Shit stains come in all shapes and sizes. This is a great deal for these movies.

Out of all of these, I can highly recommend the Seventh Seal. The rest? Not sure of, but that one I commend highly.

Woulda been nice if Fear and Loathing was part of it, seeing as how i got Blow Out and Fear and Loathing at my door today, but had to e-mail amazon about the price change on release day for Blow Out. Paths of Glory is an excellent film, and totally worth it at that price.

Usually I'm more sensible with my money but when it comes to a Criterion sale I'm all over that like a fat kid at a bakery.

Yojimbo & Sanjuro
Paths of Glory
M

Nom nom nom!

If people are looking for advice on blind buys, I own and can STRONGLY recommend Wings of Desire, Broadcast News, Yojimbo & Sanjuro, Yi Yi, and The Seventh Seal. But it's Criterion. It's hard to go wrong. And if you do end up not liking something, easy enough to trade on GOOZEX or sell on eBay and get most of your money back.

Hrm . . . I want Blow Out, White Material, and Le Cercle Rouge, but I know that I'll be able to do better than $18.99 on them during the B&N sale with membership/coupons/etc. So I guess the question is whether I want to hold out until July for them . . .

I watched The Double Life of Veronique last week (actually twice, because after I watched it by myself, my girlfriend decided that she wanted to see it), and I liked it quite a lot. I'd recommend it, if it looks like your type of movie.

The BBS story is an amazing deal - 7 movies in that one, three of which are true American classics (Five Easy Pieces, Easy Rider, The Last Picture Show). Blow Out is one of my favorite paranoid thrillers in the 60's tradition, and I recommend that as well.

I'm torn on whether to buy Yojimbo/Sanjuro. I own two copies of each on DVD, the original release, and the remasters re-release. I am pretty pleased with the re-issue, but the price for the Blus is pretty cheap I also own two copies of Seven Samurai and Ran :/

Also if you do happen to click the Blu-ray.com links above and buy it through their links, CAG gets no referral for the sale. So depending if you care or not, click the links in the OP and search for the movies you want instead

You mean other than America Lost and Found: The BBS Story, Blow Out, Paths of Glory, Shock Corridor, The Naked Kiss, Broadcast News, Sweet Smell of Success, and Modern Times? ;)

If it's simply a matter of not liking subtitles and wanting movies in English, the following are also options: The Red Shoes, Kes, The Mikado, Topsy-Turvy, and White Material. Fish Tank is also in English, though the accents are heavy enough that you might still want the subtitles anyway. The Leopard, while the main feature is in Italian, also includes the English-language American cut as a bonus feature. So there's those as well.

haha, I knew someone would call me out, I was too link lazy and skimmed the list. and I'll admit, I've only really heard of Broadcast News, but have never seen it. May have to since I majored in journalism..I was just thinking about my personal collection where I don't have any obscure standouts or older films, mainly all the 'mainstream' stuff from the 90's, 2000's.

I'll order Broadcast News if the price holds until Friday..

Haha, yeah, if you're looking for mainstream Hollywood 1990s/2000s movies, Criterion probably isn't really the place for you. Well, until that Armageddon blu-ray comes out, anyway. (It's not so much that they don't want to put out any mainstream/bigger name films, it's more that they're unavailable or very expensive to license.)

You may have at least heard of a few of the films in the America Lost and Found set . . . Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, Head (aka the Monkees movie) . . . if you're looking for a jumping in spot, given your taste, that may be a good (albeit expensive -- might want to try one or two of the films from Netflix first) place to start.
