I'm tempted to get this, but I would love to find it in high-def later on, I managed to watch a few episodes on a network and it looked amazing. Any chance of the series being moved to HD in the near future?

In the near future? No.

And DD is even slower now, things become backordered and they don't tell you, things just don't ship out at all and worse the DVDs come in banged to hell, and their prices aren't as great as they used to be.
