Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

Ehh, not really a fan of "get a $5 credit for anything you buy in the entire preceding year [to spend in December.]" personally I don't buy much during the year, most of my shopping is done in this three month holiday sprint. That highlights the major difference between them too: The dynamic shifts from a 1-2 month offer to be spent on 1 month following it (short term, simple to think about and plan) to a 10-11 month effort for 1-2. Just very different. I'd rather stick to Jan or Jan to March in some capacity there since it helps the idea of sticking around for it more.

Well, I debated and debated last night whether to finally bite on The Secret World all the way up to midnight... and I resisted. Only to long on tonight and see the price match! So I finally gave in. Now just to find 40 gb of space...

I just ask EA Support to help me to generate new Origin key for Mercenaries 2 : World in Flame via Live Chat that I think if Crysis Maximum Edition in Amazon is SecuRom,I can use same way to redeem :)

Skimmed the thread, if there's issues with publisher responsiveness, why not more deals from the ones that already have things on the list?

For example, Focus Home has Mars: War Logs and Contrast on the list, how about:

Of Orcs and Men for something like $8-10 pre-EC, or maybe in a bundle with Mars for $13-15 pre-EC. Also Magrunner: Dark Pulse for $7-8 pre-EC.

Not huge names, but I'd bet sales would be decent. Heck, they had a Humble Bundle this year that I'd imagine a lot of people missed and would jump on an identical deal at $10 or so pre-EC.

It's from a different developer, but there was a bundle this summer with Symphony, but it's hardly been on sale at all otherwise.

Symphony I'd buy at $7.50 pre-EC or less. Given that it was essentially $2 in the bundle, $6.99 pre-EC seems reasonable.

So contacted EA Chat support.

Must say pretty efficient for the most part.

The person I talked to emailed me two new codes and asked me to try them. Needless to say they did not work. I told the rep that and she took a few minutes and they appeard in my account. Watched them pop up in the client.

After she was done I asked:

you: I just say them pop up in my Origin client ...
you: saw*
Shaurya: Great!
you: While your there add a few more games .. :p .. just kidding :)
Shaurya: I apologize we are not authorised to do this.
you: Hehe .. doesn't hurt to ask :)
Shaurya: I can provide you a 15% discount coupon if you wish :)
Chat took about 30 mins

I've missed the last 10 or so pages and just skimmed through trying to catch up, is it still the EA sale?

While everyone tends to "hate" on EA .. at least they appear to be the only ones not only responding to Tony but us as well.

@Emuaust .. just so you don't think it as it may appear that way .. I was not saying you where hating on EA :)

Nice try with the crysis pack.  Can't justify $10 as I already have crysis 2 from the EA bundle.  I'll stick to the original plan - if I have coupons left over at the end of the month, reconsider Crysis 3.

I have no problem w/ the $5 credit thing for buying stuff in Nov + Dec right before and for Jan 2014. I think that's a nice carrot on a stick - to get us to buy stuff during the Holidays. And if you were planning to buy a lot of stuff anyways, not thinking much of the coupon - no big loss, right?

Thing is - some of us saw how great Jan 2012 and Jan 2013 were....and expected more of the same. A lot of us those 2 years were using coupons of our own - and even bothering others who had extra coupons to get more deals! That's how GOOD those years were to us. And many us probably noticed this - and stocked-up a bit on coupons in Winter 2013...and bought things we probably wouldn't have, otherwise; expecting more of the same kind of greatness in Jan 2014.

My problem is this - the deals so far ain't been that enticing in Jan 2014...so far. I do buy a lot of games, so that probably does NOT help matters when deals rides around - and stuff I've bought before goes on sale AGAIN; or gets BUNDLED w/ other stuff I already own.

But, I don't think I'm the only one feeling this way - but EC sales in Jan 2012 + Jan 2013 w/ those EC Coupons rocked, when everything was said and done. We got a pretty good amount of ground-breaking + trend-setting deals littered throughout the month of Jan once that $5 EC coupon was applied, those 2 years. And some of those deals - they STILL ain't been topped.

But, Jan 2014 looks so far to be a bust for me. Key words: "so far". There's still time. So, hopefully, this'll change - there's still time, about 2 whole weeks or so. Those next 2 weeks hopefully will be killer - b/c I got 13 coupons here; and zero have been used. I have hope - if maybe Tony & Amazon can actually get these publishers & developers on-board.

Glad you guys said that the CS rep at Origin was able to get you fixed up. I gave the guy I talked to via Origin chat my activation keys for Crysis Maximum and he came back and said they don't work. He's still working on it after I said they were from some older Origin activation system. Fingers crossed.

Sure looks like it - b/c they seem to be the only ones really dished out some deals consistently on a fair amount of their catalog w/ Amazon DVG this month.

Sure, some of the prices from EA ain't been spectacular; some of the deals been better than MOST of their own typical EA deals have been anywhere else; and some of them might have been better than ever but still not really apply to "CAG" crowd. ;)

The Syndicate+Saboteur deal was pretty good, for sure - but I already owned both.

Dead Space 3: Awakened - one of the best deals we seen on that, for sure. I think it might've been cheaper on GMG once, but that was about it?

The Sims 3: Supernatural - that's one of the better deals we've seen on that, but GameFly was cheaper earlier in the week.

Mass Effect 2 DLC Bundle - Sure, BioWare Points never go on sale and DLC w/ them is extremely expensive and normally as a Premium. But., $25 is the best deal we've seen on that stuff either in the long time or ever.

But, all these deals - they still probably are not where some of us CAG's want them to be, more or less. ;)

But, yeah - EA seems to be trying and doing better than most; especially for AAA publishers here. At least they're showing up to the party.

Tell the rep that you bought crysis from Amazon and you would like to add to your Origin library. That's how I did it last year.

You know - we might complain about what those w/ big power + big money do w/ EA w/ their business practices w/ DLC galore, BioWare points, pulling servers, always online DRM on some games, and other stuff...

...but their CS Dept. has ALWAYS done their best and try to help out.

I can't fault the CS Dept for anything...

...At least, not yet. ;)

EDIT:

Amazon matched The Secret World on Steam and the EC coupon applies making it $5.19:

SWEET! :D

Hope you enjoy the game.

I really don't understand why more developers/publishers don't get on board.

They get the chance to sell thousands of DIGITAL games, which essentially costs them nothing as there are no materials to put together and manufacture, and make serious cash even if it's at a deep discount.

The other option. Don't give Amazon the OK at great deals and sell shit.

A perfect example would be the Skyrim DLC. I, and I know many many others, refuse to pay more for the DLC on sale than the cost of the Ledendary when that's on sale. If Bethesda was smart they would create a DLC bundle for us early adopters (Instead of screwing us by keeping the DLC at full release retail still) and sell it for like $14.99 or $19.99 pre coupon. They would sell lots of copies (even to those without coupons) at that price making some decent profits.

It boggles my mind how a company can't see this. That they have a huge opportunity to get some sales on something that normally would not be selling right now. I just bought Crysis Max .. normally I would have never bought that.

My rep emailed me new codes. Those did not work either.

Tell him to just add them to your account. That's what my rep did after the new codes failed. I lactually saw them pop up in my games list.

Not that it will help but my reps name was Shaurya P. maybe he can talk to him/her :)

Skyrim I can sort of understand.  It's still Skyrim and a hot IP.  What really surprises me is the lack of Squeenix and Sega participation as they've usually been active in the past and a lot of their stuff has already been dirt cheap so I don't see what would restrain them in throwing together some bundles.  2K stuff is there but mostly at what it was during Holidays sales without coupons.

Sometimes I think Amazon doesn't have as much pull as we think they do. I mean, weren't they the last online retailer to sell Bethesda games digitally? Even GamersGate was selling Bethesda games ages ago. Doesn't really surprise me there aren't many publishers on board with the EC promo this year.

See Skyrim I can not understand .. makes no sense to me from a business standpoint .. I don't care "Hot" it is. The current pricing screws over early adopters.

The DLC is now way overpriced.

Base game + DLC costs $75

Legendary is $60

How does this make sense. Never mind the fact that most bought Skyrim at $60. Effectively making it cost $105.

When Legendary came out DLC should have been cut to at LEAST equal the cost of Legendary.

Publishers missing this year that were on board last year: Microsoft, Namco, and Sega at least. Might be others.

See, that's the thing - even if something was say $2-3 cheaper after EC coupon than what we saw going on during Holiday sales (and not truly a whole $5), if it beats 75-80% off - it's still a killer deal and would probably be worth jumping on.

80% off or better is even more so preferred now on Amazon DVG - they charge tax now, dammit. ;)

About Squeenix + Sega - hmmm, maybe they both have lost so much $ and have bled so much cash on their so-called "failures" (Sega had Aliens: CM + Squeenix looks like they might've spent too much on making Hitman: Ab, Sleeping Dogs, and TR 2013; and who knows if Squeenix will ever recoup from the FF13 saga), they can't afford to sell anything at extremely low prices anymore.

I don't know.

{shrug}

Honestly the Skyrim DLC should never have been $20 retail price. But it's Skyrim and they know they can get away with it.

And to add to it all when Skyrim does go on sale the DLC gets a shitty discount. I should not have to buy the Legendary edition to get the DLC cheap.

Maybe if they gave a giftable copy of the Base game it would be worth it. But I refuse to give them money on the Legendary edition to get the DLC cheap.

Early adopters always get screwed, in some shape or form - it's one of the reason I often try to avoid buying games at close to full price or ASAP. I try to wait it out.

Doesn't always work for me, though - as Skyrim was one of those games I wanted ASAP and had to have dad buy it for me at 33% off for X-Mas (on X-Mas Eve). We're all weak for some certain game or series - let's be truthful here.

God, I so hope Dragon Age: Inquisition and Witcher 3 doesn't do this to me, as well...

{shakes my head}

While early adopter usually get screwed by things like GOTY editions and stuff you understand this when you buy early. BUT you also hope that someday the DLC will also get a little cheaper.

But with Skyrim the screwing is extra hard.

It just bothers me that the Base+DLC cost more than Legendary. :)

Squeenix and 2K are too busy sending codes to GreenMan to sell at 75% off before voucher to return Tony's calls.

Yes - see, I could possibly get down on Skyrim: Legendary if it gave me "giftable" copies of any extras.

The problem is - this doesn't happen; keys can go to waste here.

I already own Skyrim base-game + Dragonborn.

I only need Dawnguard + Hearthfire.

So, given everything:

No way I'm gonna spend much on Legendary just to get just the two DLC's that I'm missing.

So, I'm really looking for killer deals on Dawnguard + Hearthfire each.

Maybe $5-7 tops total for all of that missing stuff seems "okay" to me.

DLC alone costs more than Legendary.

Same thing with Bethesda's Dishonored... DLC costs more than the GOTY.

Sale prices of course.

honestly dragonborn is the only worthwhile dlc

It took like an hour, but the EA guy was able to get Crysis and Crysis Warhead added. What was causing problems at first was I didn't have a classic account. I had to go create one at Pogo.com, then he was able to add them.
