Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

And why exactly do the prices have to be lowest price ever - $5 for this to be a valid sale?
It doesn't necessarily have to be. If it's $5 or less it makes sense not to - this was already said. $2.50 makes sense as it's a notable cut. You can't say you didn't get it at a notable drop with the coupon at that point by any measure. On the other hand if it's more than then it's tricky. Take the current Steam PM in Declassified - I'm pretty sure it's been $10 before elsewhere but at $7.50, I don't have anything to complain. Still not my price point but I shrug my shoulders at it because $2.50 is usually a great game this season. Would it be something that I'd remember in a few months? Something to point out in subsequent sales? Nope. That's reserved for the stuff that does end up being lowest price - $5 (no need to cheat a bit with the GMG code, not that petty). Those are the ones pointed at when talking about the sale.

So let me get this straight...Tomb Raider is going to hit a record with this for its lowest historical price ever.

The Legacy of Kain pack is going to hit a record with this for its lowest historical price ever.

If I didn't own both of those already, I would be ecstatic to pick them up.

Everything else is at good prices.

Let's not forget that just because this is EC, it doesn't make it some amazing magical place where everything is going to hit its lowest historical price of all time. When there is ANY other sale do you go WHAT THE F*#& IS THIS? MULTIPLE GAMES ARE SETTING NEW RECORDS FOR THE LOWEST PRICES WE'VE EVER SEEN. F*#& THIS SALE!! THIS BLOWS!!!

somehow i doubt it. stfu and stop being a bitch.
Actually, for the sales that people ALWAYS use to defend EC, it is that magical place where things go hit their lowest and beyond.

Nobody ever, ever talks about the EC as a praiseworthy sale where games don't hit their lowest price. You will not once find praise for the game being higher than the lowest price. You might find an occasional post for it hitting the same - THQ being the only real case that comes to mind - but games shatter their historical low (another one worth mentioning - $7.50 Walking Dead last year was the lowest for months). They have for the past two years, it's happened this year too even! Just not with Square's. It barely nudges it. You can't have your cake and eat it too - a bunch of us defend the hell out of this sale because of how it's been. This year's been weak. That's no secret. You can't seriously go "oh this is fine because it's passed the low by a small amount!" while at the same time going "man this sale has been so great with the way these not-so- sizable Square discounts have been."

But hey, I guess we can instead ignore history, not be critical, and just call people who disagree with us bitches and personally insult them because that's how reasonable people act, right?

FFT was a good game. I'm kind of tempted to replay the PSP port but it's got a slowdown bug so all skills and spells make the game run at about half speed for the duration of the casting effect. That's pretty significant. Still, though; the added cut scenes, the vastly improved translation, and the extra classes are all enticing.

Just a heads-up for anybody that isn't PC-exclusive; EU PSN is currently having a big FF sale with a lot of titles being 50% off. We've had the same sale the past couple of years in late January/early February. If we get it again, you should be able to pick up most of the sub-X titles for 4.99 each (excluding the FF4 remake.)

I've never played X and am excited about the HD X/X-2 bundle I've got on pre-order at Amazon. :)

Regarding Legacy of Kain: I haven't played the games at all yet, but I have the 3-game bundle from elsewhere. Thoughts on Blood Omen 2? That's the one I don't have. I'm curious as to whether it's worth grabbing this pack just to add that, then dump the keys for the duplicates somewhere.

Yes.

Come on man :(. Posts like this are literally why fewer questions get answered.

All prices are pre-coupon:

1/24-1/31:

Tomb Raider - $8.99

Thief Bundle (Thief Gold, Thief II: The Metal Age, Thief Deadly Shadows) - $7.49

Legacy of Kain Bundle - $7.49

Final Fantasy XIV: $14.99

Final Fantasy XIV Collector's: $17.99

Hitman Taking Care of Business Pack (Hitman, Blood Money, Silent Assassin, Absolution Professional Edition) - $12.99

Cheers,

Tony
That Thief Bundle... :D/

Question about the Hitman Pack, Steam has the Hitman collection for $8.99 till tomorow.

Any chance of price match or it can't cause of the different version of Absolution (base vs professional)?

Thank
It would be a instabuy for me!

It's okay to just not buy a game if you don't like the price.
Of course. I'm just not really seeing the problem with pointing out Square's offering is weak, explaining why it's weak using multiple examples, feeling they gave Amazon the shaft majorly there (on 2/3 of platforms Sleeping Dogs has been on it has been free and it doesn't so much as get a peep here, what?), or answer a response that's disagreeing with me.

There's nothing personal in any of that. Unless you're Amazon I guess. In which case the issue is more of Square's offerings.

For FFT, if you have the PSP version, I'd recommend getting that fanmade patch. Fixes the slowdown a ton, though the game has to be on the device digitally (as in, not UMD) because the drive is a major bottleneck for loading times. And you can ignore Blood Omen 2. Realistically the LoK series is all about the story, the gameplay is uh.... not good or downright awful. Top tier story though and I drink every day to forget there's an MMO coming out based on it.

I see the thread went pure stupid again, must be something in the air. 20 likes for Tony's post full of rehash crap that's been on sale 74.7 times already across a billion different websites (yes, I counted). THANK GOODNESS a few of those deals are 20 cents cheaper than the all time low cause that saved the EC sale! Now bring on that Magicka bundle, shit just got real.

Those are great deals. Now I wish I'd waited on Tomb Raider, but I still got it for $5.

Thanks Tony!!

Okay, but as Tony said, some of these games are 20% discounts. You can't measure the merits of all sales by dollar amounts, because the higher the price, the less five bucks means. For example, hypothetically, if everything was sold at its historical low then had the EC coupon applied, Tomb Raider would be 100% off. Bioshock Infinite would be like half off (its all time low). You're looking at the Square Discounts the wrong way by simply looking at the size of the dollar discount. Realistically, what would you expect to get Tomb Raider for? That's a game that came out less than a year ago and sold extremely well. It's hard to justify getting pissed about it being on sale for four bucks. It can't go much lower than that...many AAA games never even hit four for a long time (Morrowind GOTY has yet to go below five, and that's over a decade old). You also have to take into account that Square Enix already heavily discounts their games, so there's not much further down to go. Again, yeah, this sale isn't as good as past sales, but when you're getting games at their all time lowest prices, yeah, it's a bit bitchy to whine about getting an extra 20% off on top of that.

Or better yet, emulate it. There are even modded versions of the game adding new jobs, weapons, etc.

Hey,

This is getting hostile (not directed at you) and I apologize for that, it should not. I wasn't trying to start an argument but rather address your comments.

First, we need to stop with the name calling guys, in any fashion, I appreciate the thought behind the posts but we gotta keep things civil.

Darkzero, again apologies for not addressing that sooner, I was posting on the way out of work.

Lastly, and addressing the content of your post. My point wasn't that people should look at the current deals and begin singing the praises of our deals (that is never my intention) :) but rather to address your comments around "price jacking". I've made it clear over the past couple of weeks that I wanted publisher participation to be stronger, and made no secret of the fact that this year has been significantly less bombastic than last year. The fact remains that the Square Enix deals are lowest in channel for much of the content, which is what I find hard to define as price jacking.

Hope this helps address and close out the conversation. I think everyone has had an opportunity to chime in, but if you'd like to discuss further with me I'd ask that you do so via PM so we don't keep stirring an emotional pot in thread.

Thanks guys!

Cheers,

Tony

I wish some of the more offbeat Square Enix games I listed the other day could have made the list. But I guess their obscurity might have made them poor sellers?

Anyhow, super prices for Tomb Raider, Kain Bundle, and Thief Bundle. Hooray for SE for coming through on deals. I'd buy them all if I didn't already own them.

I've already got it. I have a Vita, though, not a PSP, and I don't want to jailbreak my Vita just because of FFT and the like...3 games for PSP I want to play that are not on PSN. I fired FFT up in an emulator and it works well with the patch, but I'd rather play it on the Vita than on my computer.

Yeah, I would've bought Project Snowblind @ 75% off (or better) after coupon. C'mon Tony, can't we have some special deals on obscure games just for us CAGs?!

EA guy and Tony, how about a DA2 DLC Bundle with The Exiled Prince, Legacy and Mark of the Assassin.
THIS!!

YES please!!!! :D

EDIT:

$26.97 would be total of those.

75% off that -> $26.97 minus $20.2275 ($20.22) = $6.75

(all before tax, of course)

So, yep - give me somewhere around or better than that above price before or after $5 coupon, I'd be so in w/out hesitation. :D

Yeah, I have suggested some of those types of square enix games in the past, and they either get completely ignored, get only 60% off, or I must rely on a glitch like that quantum conundrum pack for $1.69.

Tony, I hope you don't mind me keep on mentioning them as requests. I will keep doing so until we get good deals/bundles on those square enix games, or Tony throws us a bone and "accidentally" glitches 'em :)

Thief and the hitman games aren't good enough, they go on sale pretty often, we want the others!
