Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Only two of 30 nations, Mexico and Turkey, are ahead of the United States for income inequality and poverty rates, or the gap between rich and poor, according to a report released Tuesday.
The report was released by Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development of its 30 member-nations, most of which are developed countries.
In America, the average income of the richest 10 percent of people is $93,000. When compared to purchasing power parity, it is the highest in the OECD when compared with the average of $54,000 for OECD nations.
The poorest 10 percent of Americans have an income of $5,800 per year, compared to the OECD average of $7,000.
In addition, the richest 10 percent hold 71 percent of American's net worth and 28 percent of total income, leaving 90 percent of the population to split the remaining 72 percent of the nation's income.
While income inequality grew worse in the U.S., it decreased in France over the past 20 years because poorer workers were paid better.
The OECD report found that economic growth of recent decades benefited the rich more than the poor and in Canada, Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway and the United States, the gap also increased between the rich and the middle-class.
Social mobility is lower in countries such as Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States where there is a wide distribution of income and higher in Nordic countries where income is distributed more evenly, the OECD said in a statement on its website.

Something makes me believe Americans will put more stock into what "Joe the Plumber" has to say. There's a sucker born every minute...

The politics of envy are useful tool for the Socialists.

Poor people in the united states live like royalty compared to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the Left's answer to the problem echoes the last line in the "article":

Distribute the wealth more evenly.

And it, of course, is up to the government to redistribute that wealth at the expense of the individual and his liberty.

No shit. But at least we know that all the wealthy people earned every penny they deserved, and all the poor people earned every penny they deserved. Not a penny more!

Meritocracy at its finest. That's the American I know and love.

Well, I suppose if your barometer is starving to death in the street, then everyone not starving is by definition rich.
We need more enforced wealth redistribution. That's clearly the answer.
It's already happening my friend. It's called the 700 billion dollar bailout.

The twist ending is that its redistributing the money from the average taxpayer to a bunch of fatcat failed bankers in NYC.

At least poor people don't have to pay taxes. Too bad they'll have to pay $10 for a loaf of bread soon.

Excellent. You understand.

Survival is the only real barometer for the individual.

Reproduction is the only real barometer for a species.

A big house, a fast car and a bunch of gadgets are window dressings at best and objects that will hinder survival during hard times at worst.

One could argue it is plumage, but the rich tend to reproduce less than the poor.

Highlighted for truth.

Yeah, I guess you could bake some bread on a trashcan fire. Though if you've got some water, fire, and a pot, you could also get a shit ton of ramen and probably beans, which might still be pretty cheap even with massive inflation.

Poor people in Africa don't get ramen and beans, so nobody should bitch. fucking bunch of complainers I say.

We've broken something similar out for Caitlyn when she wouldn't eat a cooked chicken breast because it had a small amount of char.

You forgot sugar. And some seasoning if you're kinky.
Yeah, you're right. The yeast needs something to eat.
Then again, as American yeast, they enjoy an astoundingly high quality of life as opposed to yeast from other countries. Perhaps we've overlooked yeast's welfare ways far too long.

You don't need sugar to make bread. Try it.

And you don't really even need yeast, at least not from a package. Yeast is free as the air we breathe, and is where we get sourdough.

Give me a recipe without one, the other or both and I'll try it.

People's ignorant fear of Socialism is driving our ignorant spiral to becoming a third world country.

Little to no middle class is one the main criteria for a third world country. It has nothing to do with how well the poor are treated. "I know your sleeping on a cot in shelter that's only open 3-5 days a week, and eating nothing but day old bread and soup, but in some countries people just sleep on the streets and eat out of trash cans...So stop complaining American homeless person!"--->"I know you lost your son in the war, but you know in some countries mother's have lost entire their entire family in war, so stop complaining Mother of Iraqi War causality!"

In other words, the idea that because the poor in this country being treated better in American than other countries, holds no barring on the need to improve the quality of low income people, and do our best to have them raise up in society. How does another person really horrible situation make another person's less horrible situation any better?

Reminds me of the first time the war started going south, the WMDs were nowhere to be found, and W's popularity dropped through the floor. His supporters were desperate. I remember the rallying cry was "We ousted Saddam - and W is better then Saddam"

You can always tell when conservatives are backed into a corner by watching how fast that barometer of success drops.

Forgive me for aiming a little higher then "Being poor in USA - it's better then living in Liberia!"

Sales tax is still a tax. Of course, that doesn't apply to the weed man.

If I coated them in chocolate, it might entice some young boys to "convert" in my van.

TB yeast
1 1/4 Cup water (110deg)
TB oil
3 1/2 cups flour
pinch salt

mix, knead thoroughly
Let rise 1/2 hour, punch
let rise 20 minutes, roll into pizza pie - YUM!

Use sourdough starter instead of pre-packaged yeast - works great !

You can also use baking powder instead of yeast, or baking soda and buttermilk. Biscuits anyone ? No sugar needed.
