Animal Crossing Sleep Mode- doesn't work?

I closed my DS in the middle of playing AC and opened it about three hours later. When I opened it, it immediately shut off and the battery had apparently died. Has anyone else experienced this? The battery using its full amount while the DS is closed?

i was wondering this too. I usually just shut the lid for every game but for AC then several times i turned it on and the red light was on. So it looks like the game doesnt sleep.

And that really sucks because boot/save time was a big reason i got bored of the GCN version. But i guess with the DS version then you still need to go through that stuff.

ya on most games when you close the DS the light flashes green meaning it's in sleep mode. But on ACWW it stays green even as it is closed meaning that the DS is still running at full speed.

It turns the screens off, but keeps the game running. You can still host people when it's closed. :) We have wifi at school so we have our DSs running often in our pockets during class. ;)

You can actually press the start button at any time to get the option to shut down. It is pretty nice not having to go back home to save.
