What I find terribly amusing is not her predictable and tired shock-conservative schtick; it's that she's apparently completely incapable of any rational thought whatsoever.

Coulter: "The idea that the more Christian you are, the less tolerant you would be is preposterous."

Deutch: "But you said we should all throw Judiasm away and we should all be Christians."

Coulter: "Yeah."

No, uh, trouble reconciling that position with itself there, Anne? No, uh, apparent paradox in that statement, hmm?

its not really her that bothers me, its the peons that follow every breath she makes which makes the situation bad.
 
It's too bad there's no such thing as an /ignore filter or mute button in real life. People like Coulter and Jack Thompson are attention whores - their weakness is getting no attention and then they just fade away into oblivion. It's the people whose buttons get easily get pushed that allow Coulter and her lot to thrive.

Her speech is shocking, but it's not the first time she has made these type of comments and she has never apologized.

IKohn is right on - the shame is that there are ppl who continue to buy her book and buy into her spiel.

For me, it's beyond that. It's that whole organizations, churches, political action groups keep inviting her to speak. They're presumably not taking that opportunity to tell her she doesn't represent them, so that tells me she does. The fact that she isn't a pariah on the right for making them look like bigoted morons is insane.

I have to say, Coulter's book isn't doing very well. It's not tanking, but debuting at #3 on the NYT nonfiction list is unspectacular for her, and the highest she's been on Amazon is #40.

She's making money, I'm sure, but her irrelevance is beginning to show. When cultural provocateurs find that they are irrelevant, they tend to panic and do something outrageous in order to boost their relevance. They almost always fail (think of your all-time shock rockers, such as Alice Cooper, Kiss, Ozzy, Marilyn Manson et al...they're all boring and kinda...cute by today's standards).

If you think this comment about the Jews, her comment about killing and converting Muslims, her calling John Edwards a "fag," or her other tantrums were something...just you wait. I bet she'll see where her book is in three weeks, and if it isn't doing any better (or worse, disappears from the lists), she'll go right back to manufactured controversy just in time for the holiday shopping season. My guess? She'll call Al Sharpton a "dumb nigger." I genuinely think that she would go that far to show how stolid she is in her beliefs, and not consider it a racist thing to say.

What sucks the most is that it works. It gets her on TV and you all know the "there is no such thing as bad publicity" maxim. I wonder if there is any way to punish instead of financially award such outlandish, prejudiced behavior.

Simple. Ignore her to complete irrelevance. Unfortunately, this requires a near total cooperation of the public. Showing how stupid she is still gets her media time. Showing how ignorant she is still gets her media time. When more people, especially those in positions of power, don't bother to listen to her insane diatribes, she'll realize her irrelevance and hopefully when she's too old to change her ways.

It's the people who buy her book and pay her to speak that give her relevance.

It would be remiss of the media to ignore the Ann Coulter phenomenon.

I'm actually glad that she continues to get airtime - it just exposes how phony and bigoted Ann Coulter and the religious right truly are.

Unlike Dubya, Coulter doesn't occupy a position of real power. She's only as strong as the controversy she generates. See the problem with that is the media (for better or worse though my money's on worse) influences those self-same people who buy her books which then gets reported on by the media. Because at this point of her supposed 'cultural relevance', if a person is still a staunch supporter of Coulter, it's highly unlikely you'll convince them otherwise so you're just preaching to the choir of how bad she truly is. So you end up in a vicious cycle. The only way to break that cycle is to deny her ability to generate controversy which is a multimedia blacklist - tv, print, internet, etc. Soon, she'll just be another face in the crowd no matter how she pisses, moans and otherwise threatens to hold her breath until she blue in the face which is where you want her to be - irrelevant to the world stage.

Its especially evil because it is so damned entertainiing. I seriously get very pissed off watching her spew her bile but can't turn it off. She is to me as Howard Stern is to an old conservative; I hate it but can't stop listening. Damn...i guess that analogy doesnt work since he went to Sirius. Shit.
