Ok so a few days ago after placing my big order to take advantage of the 25% off code, I got most of my games incomplete. When I went to post on the forums one or two others said they had the same problem, and numerous people were noticing many games no longer had the guarantee listed on their purchase page.

I contacted gamestop customer service and told them about this and got back the response that not only were none of my games covered by a guarantee, but that they no longer HAVE a complete gurantee for Wii, 360 or PS3 games. I just wanted to pass this along to people since it seems like many of you are still buying from gamestop.com under the illusion that the complete guarantee is still in effect. Gamestop.com is back to a crap roll of the dice and a 25% chance of getting a complete copy!

Anyone else feel like this was pretty damn shady? They announce the complete guarantee and even give away prizes to get peoples attention. Then in the middle of some of the biggest sales they have ever had they yank the guarantee. I just do not understand gamestop and why they insist on antagonizing deal hunters...I was ok with them whenever they were an overpriced flea market for soccer moms...but this 2 step forwards 2 steps back stuff is kind of annoying.

I always thought this was hit or miss, unless it was specifically stated on the game page itself. I ordered a few used games back a month or so ago and on both of those pages it was specified that the games were "complete". I guess that's gone away?

Looking over a handfull of games I just ordered that are both new and newer like God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 none come with the guarantee. The CSR that emailed me also made it sound like they never have any kind of guarantee.

I messaged cheapyd last night asking him to get in touch with gamestop or at least edit his contest post that still states gamestop has a guarantee...but it still remains. So who knows?
 
i do like that you can put a 1 year warranty on some games (i think when you pre-order then pick it up, they offer you a warranty for a few bucks)

If you are buying a warranty on a videogame, you may not be a cheap ass gamer.

Warranty's on games, DVD's, etc... seems dumb to me. Why not just put your stuff back in the case when you're done so it doesn't get ruined? Save yourself the extra money.

heh yea.. i guess... i've never bought a warranty, but i always thought it was neat that they have the option there for customers.

and personally, i can't bring myself to put them back into cases, i have a specific game case because when i used to put them back in the case they started getting this small crack dead center, and they'd stop reading... happened to too many to count :/

As long as you store them so they don't get damaged, that's all that matters. Buying a warranty just seems totally unnecessary and lazy.

Agreed. It seems to me though that they removed the complete guarantee to push their store warranty.
 
Okay now in regards to OP's complaint, yeah it's crap that they took that guarantee away after all of a month or so. Guess they ran out of complete copies of PS3/Wii/X360 games faster than expected.

But, now that it's known and stated once again on each used game page that games may not be complete, caveat emptor. Although it really isn't too difficult to find a local store with a complete copy of just about any game they actually sell online, and just request an exchange - same with getting a scratched up disc. Even if the employee/manager is being a douche-whore and balks at doing a simple non-transactional exchange, I've found it's much easier to avoid arguing and just purchase the store's better copy, then subsequently return the crappier disc or disc only copy the next day or to another store. Problem solved.

Now, as for game warranties.

FLOL, why the fuck would anyone pay Gamestop (or anyone for that matter) for their game warranty, when you could simply pull an "exchange" similar to what I've outlined above? Gamestop allows this because they allow returns on used games for up to 7 days with a receipt. I give them substantial business, and this is one of the fringe benefits they provide. If they didn't want it exploited, they wouldn't allow returns on used games but they want customers in the stores thus it's a very small price for them to pay. So why pay for a service you can get for free?
