Mercede is a variant of Mercedes, of Spanish origin meant to invoke the Virgin Mary.
Levi is becoming a popular boy's name. It's origins are in the biblical Levi, the third son of Jacob, namesake and founder of the tribe of Levites (priests).
Seeing as it's a religious family, he's probably just trying to save up the hundred shekels. Though, Levites traditionally don't treat women all that well.
