I had a little accident the other day and I completely destroyed my rear view mirror on the passenger's side door of my car. I've ordered and received the replacement part, now I just need to install it.

Is this something a person with little automotive knowledge should be able to do on my own? Will I need any specialized tools?

My car is a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. From what I can tell I just need to take the inside panel off the door to get to the screws to remove the bad mirror and install the replacement.

Any advice would be appreciated. I figured it would be best to research this before I go tearing things up.

Could be. I'll have to do some more searching.

There's a video in there on how to replace a mirror.[/quote]

Awesome, thanks for the link. I figured replacing the mirror would be pretty easy. I guess now all I need is the instructions for removing the door panel on my car. That's the part I'm most concerned about. I don't want to tear it up by taking it off wrong and then not be able to get it back on.

Well I got the replacement mirror put on this afternoon. The biggest issue I ran into was the little plastic door fasteners that secure it in place. Half of them got pretty busted up when I had to pry the door panel off the frame. It's extremely cheap to replace them but finding a match for my make and model was impossible in my area.

I went to both Advance Auto Parts and Oreilly Auto parts and neither had what I needed. Both stores told me that they didn't carry them by model and that I just had to "eyeball" them to find the closest match.
