Thanks for the post but I'm looking for something in the sub $1500 range...preferably around $1200ish.

Not your fault, I should have been more clear but thanks anyways though

That is a terrible deal. I just configured quick on their website a m1530 for $1474. Maybe since its direct and they aren't building it for you specifically that they charge an extra 500. Also my build was with LED which that doesn't specify if it has(which probably means no)

There is always coupons going on with dell that you may come across. There's is also a sure thing that Dell with be refreshing the m1530 sometime soon here with the new mobile platform. Almost every other manufacturer has shown their new laptops or refreshed specs but Dell hasn't. So if your looking to game you may want to look elsewhere or hold out since the 8600 is a little older compared to all the current graphics chips.

Thanks for the advice--could this mean that if I hold out for a bit longer the M1530's price could drop due to the introduction of a newer model?

Well if its a refresh then they will just be adding a different motherboard, ram, gpu, and cpu. The case and other features will be the same. So you may not be able to get the same kind of m1530 when the new stuff comes out. I've spent all summer looking for a laptop for college and am still waiting.

I ordered a m1530 new on May 24th and waited till June 24th and canceled since they weren't actually building it anymore and it was just sitting there. I then ordered a refurbished laptop from the Dell Outlet and it came broken and crappy. I returned it and am now deciding what to get.

What will you be using the m1530 for? If your looking at it to play games then I suggest you look elsewhere for now. You can get most any other kinds of laptop with a newer and better graphics card. Also there is many reports that the 8600 graphics card has overheating issues and Dell just released a bios update that forces the fans on the laptop to be running at max 90% of the time.

Dell is problematic since depending on HOW you get there the options available for the system vary (the wonder of trying to replicating deals there is great as well). The one I'm referring to is completely pimped out and trying through their site comes in SIGNIFICANTLY over $2000.

I was hoping to use it for some gaming, obviously I don't expect it to run crysis very well, more like cod4 and TF 2.

Oh and I should mention screen resolution isn't too important for me--1440X900 would be great, especially with LED backlighting

Yeah I'm not heavy in pc gaming either but I felt like I wanted just one step up from the 8600 for my obsessive TF2 playing. It did decent on 1440x900 but I didn't own it long enough to perfect the settings right or the best drivers.
