I won an auction for a manufacturer refurbished lexmark printer at UBID with a $1 bid (there were 50 printers available). There is a $49 shipping charge.

The retail version of the printer includes 2 inkjet cartridges and retails for $99.
I did not notice that the auction I had won did not include two ink cartridges until after the auction closed.

Excerpt from what I wrote to customer service:
I now have noticed that according to the ubid product page, ink cartridges are not listed in the product contents. If that is the case, then the printer should not be listed as manufacturer refurbished. It is okay for the product to be missing software or manuals, but not something as necessary and expensive as ink cartridges. The cost of replacing the missing ink cartridges would make the manufacturer refurbished product more expensive than buying a new Lexmark printer at MSRP!
According to your help page:
Manufacturer Refurbished products "are restored to the exact manufacturer specifications by the original manufacturer in a certified refurbishing center. . . Refurbished products may come with minor blemishes and may come with or without manuals, batteries and back recovery disks."

They wrote back that I could return the item but would have to pay a 15% restocking fee and shipping charges would not be refunded. So I would get back 85 cents of the $50 that I've paid. According to the site, they have shipped the item (with no tracking number was given).

Has anyone had any success filing a complaint with their credit card company? Ubid keeps credit cards on file and charges you automatically. According to the MBNA Visa website help page, shipping charges may not be refundable.

lol you are screwed. That is why you must READ every word of an auction before you bid. He has a legitimate contract.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't file a chargeback for this versus any store doing the same thing. I would try explaining that it's really shipping and handling charges as no printer charges $50 to ship so they are probably profiting $35 - $40 on shipping
