Any PS2 Pricecut soon?

Does anyone know when the PS2 might get a price cut down to say $99. At that price, I'd certainly buy one. I do have a Gamecube at the moment, and I got it with the Zelda bundle. I didn't get a PS2 then since the Gamecube had so many great games out for it and I thought I'd wait out for a PS3 instead, but with the way things are going and at $599, I think it'd be cheaper to just go with a PS2 and play all the good games it has and perhaps wait for the 360 to have a pricecut also along with the chip redesign. And how am I surviving without a PS2 you may wonder? Everyone has a PS2, and it's real easy to leech off of. But I kinda want to avoid the hassle and have a PS2 ready to play in my room. And I also have the DS to tie me over, and it's doing a great job at that. But I can wait, college is taking up a lot of time now anyway. Anyone with info, please feel free to contribute.

I'll try that out. It looks risky, but it seems like a cheap way to do it. Any other methods?

maybe christmas 2008. as it is the ps2 is the only "last-gen" system really on the market that is still viable. plus with games like god of war ii, final fantasy xii and games coming out like dawn of mana, tomb raider anniversary, and persona 3... well you get the idea.

I really wish they would, I was hopeing god of war 2 release date would be a 99 dollar playstation day also, could you imagine the "possible" surge of people just getting a slim for GOW2 and people like me updateing the old ps2. I want to buy a Slim PS2, to replace me fat ps2 even have some wanting to buy my Fat PS2 with my copy of HD Advance.

PS. had to tack this thought on.
Why didn't PS2 go 99 dollars at christmas to fight off x360 and wii until Sony could afford to sell PS3 cheaper. In my mind I can buy 129 a new slim or 299 a 360 which is next gen, and just paying 170 dollars more. Amazing how 30 more dollars is to much for something "old" but 170 dollars more isn't to much for something new

I've been randomly checking listings for PS2s over the last few months, and the cheapest I've ever seen is $75-$100. Best one yet was a few days old listing for a slim for $70. Add $25 if you need a controller and video cables! Add to that the hassle of dealing with Craigslist, and $130 retail is looking more attractive.

Chances are I'll just be biting the bullet and picking up a (probably silver) slim after my wedding - was going to wait for a PS3, but that won't be cheap enough for my liking anytime soon, so I'd rather just play Okami now.

Keep your eyes open at FYE. Around Thanksgiving, they had them for $129-$50MIR for a net price of $79. Got my rebate nice and quick too.

Good luck.

I absolutely believe the PS2 will be $99 by this holiday season.

If Sony wanted to really clean up, they would make the PS2 $99, and all the G.Hits games $10 each. If they did that they could probably sell another 20 million consoles before the parties over.

$99 this holiday season i believe to be true, when all the ps3s lose the native hardware to full software emulation.

I kinda miss E3 already, since that's when most consoles seem to have their pricecuts, but hopefully this holiday will be a happy one. The PSP already has its pricecut, so maybe this bodes well for a PS2 pricecut. And considering the 360 Elite version, having a $99 PS2 would really garner Sony some much needed sales to offset the PS3 losses. It's only $30 bucks more for a PS2 now, but waiting this long, I might as well wait just a bit more.

Considering the fact that the PS2 was the 2nd best selling video game machine last year (only behind the DS), it's not going to go down in price any time soon.

Buyer beware on the silver Slim PStwo Botticus, as my one friends nieces have a silver slim and after just 2-3 short months, it takes 2-3 times to get it to spin ANY discs. I don't know if the spindles in them are crap or what, but I know they had MAJOR problems in Japan with them. There were some serious compatability issues with that model over there.

Oh and M600, FYE was crap for me as far as getting my rebate. I had to call a DM to get ANY action taken on it and then, they still had problems getting it to me. In the end though, I ended up getting paid CASH at the store I got the PS2 at and a rebate check(which was on a post card and almost got tossed out by me) FINALLY came after 3-4 months.

Just spend the $30. The PS2 is worth it - definitely the most bang for the buck of any console the last couple years. Buy games used or on these CAG deals and you can easily score some of the best 200+ hours of gaming for under a buck an hour.

PS2 is still serious business. At the current moment, the slim black PS2 is #8 on Amazon's top sellers, above all other home consoles.

There is no reason to expect a price cut anytime soon.
