My Vizio started acting strangely last night. This is the first time it's happened, and it started out of nowhere. Model VX32LHDTV10A.

I have to press buttons on the remote a few times for it to register. I did all the normal things to resolve this problem - made sure nothing was in the way of the infrared receiver, cleaned the front of the tv, changed batteries in the remote, tried another remote, repositioned the tv, etc. But nothing seems to have solved it. Tried to look online for any other advice, but can't seem to find anything.

So, seems like the only other real option is to replace the IR sensor. I tried to look up disassemble instructions, but can't seem to find any. So, later today I'm going to try and remove just the front bezel in the hopes that the sensor is right there.

I know TVs can harbor electricity long after you turn them off, but I'm not looking to mess around with the real innards if I can help it. I'm just hoping this is a modular piece I can snap off and replace, especially since the part itself is fairly cheap (found some on eBay and other various sites).

Anyone else have any advice? Appreciate it.

I know the old tubes are dangerous to work on if you don't discharge the caps first. I don't know about an LCD/plasma/LED sort of thing, though.

If you're able to remove a small part of the outer shell and get to the IR sensor that way, then it probably won't be too dangerous. Everything by that point would likely be stepped down to low voltage. Probably 12VDC at maximum. Mostly harmless.

I'd be more concerned about static electricity zapping the TV. Make sure you're using proper antistatic equipment.

Then jiggle the channel changer. Usually a good slap does it, though.

Didn't you just buy that TV? Have you tried calling Vizio to see if it is still under warranty? They could just send someone out to take a look at it.

Otherwise I also recommend asking at AVS Forums.
