I'm looking to upgrade and I was hyped to see that the Chocolate would only be a few bucks, but after reading reviews at Amazon, i'm not so sure. Among the complaints:

- Calls people randomly sometimes
- Sends text messages before you are done typing
- Low battery life
- occasionally nonfunctioning touch screen

..anyone have them or know someone that does? Do they have problems with it?

sounds like the first version of the Chocolate... I heard the revision solves a lot of these problems.

go to howardforums.com and go to the LG section. It should answer your questions about the Chocolate with a thread or 2 about it.

IMHO the Chocolate is nothing but glossy bling bling phone. You want a functional phone that you can mod nicely, the LG8300 will do. It's 50 bucks or less in most cases. The signal and call quality is better then the Chocolate .

Had one since the Pizza Hut promo. It doesn't call people at random, it calls the first person on your list at random, though mine hasn't done it in over a month. It doesn't realy call at random, the touch buttons are sensative, once you get used to it it's not a problem. Never had any problems with the text messaging and I use it all the time. Battery life isn't bad but not great, it will last a couple of days if you don't use the MP3 player function, about a day if you do. I've never had any problems with the touch screen either. The only problems I have are reception and cosmetic. The reception bothers me in that I live in North West Indiana and the reception is fine, but I get bad reception in the city of Chicago. The cosmetic complaint is that it's glossy, like a PSP, so it smudges and scratches easily. I like the phone, its great if it's cheap since it's also an MP3 player and MicroSD cards are cheap.
How long does the battery last for you? Do you use the MP3 function of it at all?
I haven't used the MP3 function, but the battery lasts several hours for me. Sorry I don't have an exact number.

I too got the phone for cheap with an extension of my service plan. It seems like every damn phone these days has way too many features I don't need or want.

heh.. the first person on my call list is an automated thing to check my balance @ my bank, so that shouldn't be a problem. Everything you guys are saying sounds good. Which versions do you have? Chocolate? White?

I got the White Chocolate. It's ok. Battery life for me last 3 full days on a single charge. Makes some random calls but not too often. I kinda regret getting this phone. I should have gotten the Moto KRZR instead. I like flip phones better.

Also the MP3 is ok. The small speaker distorts out at the highest volume but I barely ever use the MP3.

i have had this phone about 4 months or so. the screen scratches easily, since it is exposed. even at the lowest sensitivity setting, the buttons are easy to activate (especially when you arent doing it on purpose). sometimes the arrow keys get stuck so it cycles when I dont want it to. also, the call button gets stuck too so it will dial whatever number you happen to be scrolling on at the moment. I would get another phone for ease of use, this one just has a lot of problems. if you drop your phone too, it will scuff, scratch, and basically get ugly real fast.

A friend of mine has this phone and she always complains about it. She has the older version with the touch wheel instead of the new scroll wheel though, so that might be a different story.

3 full days? Wow. Mine doesn't even last a full day, I have to charge it every night. I'm so used to a flip phone so maybe I should look into the KRZR. It'd be the same price as the Chocolate.

I read up on the KRZR. I didn't even consider it, honestly, because my girlfriend, her brother and her sister all have the razr phones, and yeah, it's good on memory and all that, it.. I dunno. The krzr seems like it's a little nicer, i've read that it's much improved, and pretty much the same design as the chocolate - it supports microsd cards, which is great. The reviews seem more positive than the Chocolate.

I'm really, really close to buying the krzr. I've got it up to the page where I fill out details.

-It's not possible to talk while charging the phone, since it charges from side, so holding in the hand is kind of inconvenient.

That's a huge downer for me, why would I not be able to talk while charging?!

Scorch if you want to look compare phones and get reviews....go here

www. phonescoop.com
They have a youtube account for different phones showing a hands on approach and giving their own reviews. i used it for my SKIII and now my new Blackberry Curve 8320. I personally would wait for the Razr 2...which looks really sick. I also like the SLVR..outta VZW's PDA smart phones..i really like the Moto Q Black Music and the Blackberry Curve 8310 World Edition. check it out the site though. it may help you decide on the chocolate or other VZW phones.

EDIT:
The reason why i like the razr 2..is that its front VGA screen is bigger and it has touch capabiliies, its more powerful, will support stereo bluetooth if your gonna go that far..and its even slimmer than before.

eh, touch capabilities don't mean much to me. neither does stereo bluetooth. As long as the BT headset I got with Warhawk works, i'm good. My girlfriend has the Motorola Q, I hate it. Bulky PDA phones are definately not for me. Thanks for the site, the reviews there seemed positive for the krzr as well.

the KRZR looks really nice to me.. i'm upgrading from an LG VX 5300 so yeah.. anything will be better!

The KRZR has a long battery life, lots of space, bluetooth (though they say the LGVX5300 has bluetooth.. and it does.. just very, very archaic bluetooth), a nice camera.. fragile, sure, but I think I may go the way of the krzr.

Well, I did it. I sat down, read five or six different positive reviews back to back and ordered the krzr before I had a chance to think about it again. I hope I don't regret it.

It looks great, but it is a piece of shit. Mine calls people, often. So people will tell me, man you left a twenty minute message on my machine last night and you were singing and shit. My battery lasts about 2-3 days but I hardly use the phone so I'm not a typical user.

Sometimes text messages just send themselves half way through. Which really can create some awkward moments.

for instance:

"I want to fcuk-send-"

then five minutes later they get

"ing go out tonight!!"

Also a lot of the menus are fucking retarded and take far too long (such as alarm and many others) to get to. Poorly laid out. Can't speak on the new version. But I will be happy when my 2 years runs out.

Glad I didn't order one. I don't understand how it can call people if your phone is locked when it's closed. Why would they release such a buggy phone?

I used to have the LG Chocolate and the battery life lasted around 3 days. I never used the mp3 function though, but I did use the calendar reminder daily and the alarm clock too. The touch wheel is too sensitive for my taste. It can be annoying if you use text messaging a lot. I never experienced the random calling though.

You will happy with it. Im a PDA person so i need my apps and emails. The only brittle part is if you drop it on the face..you will have a nice crack on the front of the case..wont effect the screen...thats what happend to my co worker who has it. otherwise you will be fine. My other friend has that phone also..and is in love with the design and the call quality of it. Great Choice Scorch.
