Anyone on the boards have a job in Investment Banking or Mergers & Acquisitions???

I'll be graduating from undergrad at the end of August this year, so I'm beginning the full-time job hunt. This summer, my course load is fairly light, so I decided to look into an internship. I have a chance to work for an M&A firm 40 hours/week for 10-12 weeks, albeit unpaid. Should I take this job (e.g. chance for networking, great skillset to pick up, etc.) or should I decline and enjoy my easy course load and focus on finding a full-time job???

I have had previous internships in an accounting department and with a private equity group.

Wait... Accounting majors from where I'm at got paid like $20/hr at their internships at PricewaterhouseCoopers. That would be really lame to get an internship with no pay when you're an accounting major.

Well, I'm a dual finance/accounting major, so I tried an internship in both fields. This job wouldn't entail accounting, it'd be mainly advising businesses.
 
My dad's a CPA, and way back in the day when he had an internship (at BKD) they paid I think $15/hr.


I'd say, if you think it will help and you don't mind the unpaid thing, go for it. It's only 10-12 weeks.
 
Trust me on this one: Accounting internships pay more than accounting full time jobs :)

That is, until you hit your third or fourth year (cuz of the whole salary vs. hourly + overtime bit)

I'd do the internship and I was an accounting/econ major with what sounds like a similar background. The networking will be priceless and could lead to a full-time job.
 
See if you can a paid internship instead. I was surprised when I got paid $25/hr at my internship. If you can't find one that pays its still a good idea to get one because chances are it will turn into a job offer. I'm still working at the company that I had my internship at.

Lol at the video Scobie! Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to spend half a day there doing a job shadow before having an offer extended/ accepting.
