Anyone try Remote Play on Xperia Tablet?

I know it would be a bit ridiculous but I'm considering getting an Xperia Z2 tablet for PS4 Remote Play. It has a 10" incredible screen, which would be amazing, and it supports the DS4, which is my biggest issue with doing it on Vita. Sony also makes a nice-looking mount for the DS4 for it and apparently the tablet is pretty light.

Has anyone done or seen this and would like to share experiences? I would really like to hear how it works and looks. It would be the ultimate way to play in bed.

Playing with a woman in bed is better then with a tablet

I wouldn't specifically buy one of their tablets just for remote play. It should be coming to other Android/iOS devices down the road and you can currently put it on non Xperia devices without the need to root it (Although Dualshock 4 won't work without root).

Yeah, I watched one of the tutorials on getting it on other Android tablets and it looked complicated to me. I also don't even have one of those so it would be an expense either way, although they are much less expensive than Xperia.

The DS4 connectivity is important to me since it's one of the main reasons I don't do Remote Play often. I really don't know why Sony doesn't just put out a Remote Play edition of Vita with all the buttons matching the DS4.

It's too expensive, but it would be neat to have no hassle and a huge portable screen and a real controller with the Xperia option. Just curious if anyone had experienced in firsthand.

If you give it a shot shadow, let us know how it handles. I am curious myself, and may look to do this when I get a PS4 again.

I have a non-Xperia tablet and tried the hacked remote play APK on it a few weeks ago. IIRC it doesn't feature direct wifi connections like the PS Vita does, so it's considerably more laggy. It shouldn't have anything to do with my tablet, just the fact that remote play doesn't work that great going through most routers. If you have an incredibly badass router, that might be a different story but I've even heard that the Vita TV on a good router has too much lag.

Personally, I would consider remote play only worth using if you have a vita and you're doing it from a relatively short distance. About 30 feet away in the bathroom from my PS4 (one room away) on my Vita directly connected I started to notice that I was on the edge of playability. Then again, I live in an apartment complex with tons of wifi signals that could've caused interference.

So IDK.

Sure thing, Yanks.

Thanks for the post, too, Das. That's actually a key question I would like to know - does Xperia connect via local wifi or does it have to go through the router because I agree the local wifi is really the only way Remote Play is useful.

I think Vita does local wifi well but what is atrocious to me is the control scheme. I just can't live with it to use key functions on specific areas of the rear touch pad. Using the DualShock is a huge draw to me for the Xperia. But, again, is it local wifi direct to the PS4?

It seems silly to spend more than a PS4 on the tablet but it's the portability I'm after and a 10-inch screen would be pretty amazing. I really like the idea of not having to use a TV is my wife is asleep or watching something else or my kids are asleep and I want to game a bit.

Yeah, I had been seeing tutorials for that and that's probably what I will do for now. Just get a dummy small memory card for the secondary account and reset the Vita to it since you can't have more than one account per card. The reset takes almost 10 minutes so you can't just easily go back to playing Vita games on your main account. That's the trade off I guess.

I watched some videos of the Xperia remote play and while it looked pretty good it clearly doesn't have a local wifi connection straight to the PS4 so it isn't going to be as responsive. I will keep it in mind if the tablet prices ever decrease.

It is madness to me that Sony doesn't either just allow the DS4 natively through Vita without hoops or put out a Vita version with all the buttons.
