Anyone watching John Adams?

One of the best miniseries I have seen thus far. The opening two parts were so gripping I got chills during moments. I cant wait to see the rest of it.

I don't have HBO but I will rent it when it comes to DVD. I have read a lot of history book for that period and people nowadays do not realize how insane and vicious politics were back in those days. I don't know if the miniseries will do justice to that time period but I still look forward to seeing it.

loved the tar and feather scene...I remeber studying the Americain Revolution history in 7th and 8th grade and reading about tar and feathering....Back then I had never put together that the tar had to be hot (and from the scene on the show very scaulding) before being applied...

DVR'd. I can't wait to watch it.

LOL!! I love that movie! I always get sucked into it when I find it on TV.

I've been watching, I love HBO miniseries. I was tempted to pick up the book at the airport last night, but decided against it because it's massive, like 700 pages.

No HBO, so I will have to wait for other options in the future. HBO does great stuff; my favorite HBO miniseries is Band of Brothers. Paul Giamatti is a great actor so this is a must-see for me when available.

Watched it and enjoyed it very much. I love HBO miniseries. I have also seen, as is usual with HBO, that it is on everyday now and I found myself watching it yesterday when nothing was on. Is the next episode this Sunday at the same time?

The tar and feathering in this was actually a LOT tamer than the one they did a few years ago for Carnivale. Still pretty brutal, but the previous one had me frantically rubbing my arms and face--it was that visceral.

i watched carnivale, I don't remeber that

yes it is on every sunday...for the next 5 sundays...I think it is being done like this because it is a long ass series and cramming that into 2 or 3 days might be to much for a lot of viewers to sit thru...Also they really don't have much else to air...entourage is coming back in either the fall or next january..big love is the only other series that has a track record and that didn't pull in big numbers for them

I had the HBO previews on cable just long enough to see the trailer for this. It looked amazing and I love Paul Giamatti. Hopefully this will come out on Blu Ray or even DVD not long after the series ends as I would love to be able to watch it.

It really is a great series. That scene with John Hancock trying to unload the tea he was carrying was amazing. John Adams screaming at Sam Adams to stop the crowd from taring who i assume was the harbor master.

They did Band of Brothers the same way when it first came out; it was on every Sunday night.

I have noticed a lot of advertising for this series that didn't seem to be there for their previous series.

I'm going to have to download this, and if it comes out on DVD buy it. Another great HBO miniseries you all should check out is The Corner, which ultimately led to the Wire.

Also fans of Paul Giamatti should check out Safe Men. Nothing great, but an interesting comedy.

Thanks for the tip, will check it out.

Episode 21 (9th in the 2nd season), "Lincoln Highway". Jonesey gets tarred and feathered by the husband of the woman who died on the ferris wheel. Ben heals him (or brings him back to life, I'm not sure which) of his wounds, but also accidentally fixes his leg, which up to that point had been in a brace for the entire series.

Yes, excellent mini-series. I bought the set shortly after getting into The Wire, and was not disappointed.

Ah yes, i remember that happening in carnivale. Before Ben healed him there were buzzards flying around, he used them to heal jones.

CheapyDad and I have only watched episode 1 so far. We enjoyed it very much, now have to catch up. We also love the other series, In Treatment , btw.

this weeks episode was a little bit slower paced...but still decent, just not as good as the first 2. Considering it is over 8 hours, I guess you have to expect some slow points.

Another without HBO, but I definitely plan to catch this on DVD down the road. For someone who watches PBS as much as I do, HBO historical docudramas may as well be porn. ;)

My middle school teacher was kind enough to school us on tarring and feathering. When you're a kid you think it's like a funny prank. It's actually designed to be like a random-chance execution. Where you will probably die from it, or at the least be fucked up for life. That tar hardens and it has to be peeled off, taking pieces of meat and skin with it, and we saw how much is typically applied. Any anybody who ever did any roofing knows how hard tar is to simply wipe off with a cloth.

It definitely was not just used to humiliate someone. If that were the case they could have used some just sticky but less dangerous, like honey or molasseses. Imagine the blistering that would cause, all over your body. Assuming you even lived through it.

Shit, you don't even have skin left. Most times they didn't stop at the tarring and feathering. You got put in the stocks for a while, so everybody that wanted to could kick you in the ass or throw shit on you. During that time, all that tar would harden up.

I'm a bit of a political geek, so watching Adams et al debate the merits of independence in Part 2 gave me shivers. I'm sure that drama of that form turns off a great deal of people, but to me, a visual demonstration of how the creation of this country was not merely the beating of chests, guns and magic.

Despite it being a parody, I think that there is a decent amount of people in this country that think that Robot Chicken's "1776" is not far from the truth. Of course, this goes hand in hand with the knowledge that hardly anyone watches PBS because they can't tear themselves away from American Idol or Flavor of Love (I realize that this is on HBO and not PBS, but this serial is very similar to something PBS would produce, just with better actors).

Part 3 was a bit disappointing, but I suppose that's game for the course when it's the episode in the biopic where the subject was disappointed himself.

I guess I'm just upset it's about John Adams. It would have been cooler if HBO had just done a big series on the Revolutionary War. Because all the stuff after the first 2 episodes is looking to be rather boring.

Oh well, they're (supposedly) doing A Song Of Ice And Fire. So I can't talk any trash towards HBO. They're my heroes right now for buying up the rights to that series.

really liked the episode tonight, especially liked his conversations with Jefferson, I look forward to when those two of the founding fathers go at it.

I've got Carnivale on DVD and didn't think the tar/feathering scene was that gruesome (or I'm just immune to violent acts :whistle2:# )

I'm looking forward to seeing this when it comes out on DVD, as I, like many others don't have HBO.

I also enjoyed this weeks episode
especially enjoyed the development they put towards his relationship with his children, how they feel so distance from him because of his time away.
