So I recieved a very unexpected video ipod as gift during our family christmas function on the 28th. With work and the holidays I have not had much time to tinker with it til yesterday though. So far I really like it and being a near total Ipod newbie I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of operation though. So here's my first big hurdle...

I own alot of DVDs and I've learned how to effectively get DVDs on it already, so that's awesome. My problem is that all my TV shows I have on DVD get lumped into one large movie type file on the ipod. In other words somehting like Futurama is not split into individual episodes, so much as it is 4 episodes all run together. I can tolerate that if need be, but to me it's just not ideal. So is there a way to separate them out to create individual episode files or will I just have to learn to live with it as it is now?
What program are you using? As far as I know itunes doesn't convert dvds. I had to get a separate program to convert dvds.
Yeah I'm not using itunes for it, I'm using Videora's Ipod Convertor in conjunction with another program at the moment. I had no trouble converting a DVd for use on the ipod and I tried CloneDVD Mobile as well, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to separate out the episodes from a TV show on DVD or even if it's possible using either one.

sorry to use your thread for my question, but i wanted to know how to get the movies and music videos i download from limewire to play in iTunes, which could be transfered to my video iPod.

you need to rip your dvd's a different way. You are ripping the whole disc as one, look for another title that has just that one episode on it. I don't know how your program works, but i use handbrake for mine
handbrake.m0k.org
AutoGK + DVD Decrypter

There are tutorials on how to use them, but I can help if you can't figure it out.
I'm interested but every tutorial I found through a google search basically just takes me through the same steps I'm doing now with a different program. I can't seem to find anything that shows me how to divide up episodes, so I gladly take the extra advice if you'd like to say.

When you say title I take it you mean software title, not the actual DVD, right (again, newbie speaking here)? And handbrake sounded like it worked great, but I only ever found useable Mac/Linux builds and I should probably mention my setup is running on a Windows PC. If anyone knows a reliable program for windows that'll allow me to split things into episodes that'd be lovely though. Again, totally newbie so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

well, by title, I mean the organization of the DVD that you have. If you play it in a DVD player, the DVD is split up by titles and chapters. The menu will take you to different titles, and within those titles are chapters. (kind of like books and chapters in the bible, or something similar)

Most TV shows on DVD have two options on how to play their episodes:
Play all
Pick episode

When you choose play all, it usually takes you to title 1, and proceeds to go through all of the episodes on the disc.

When you choose play episode, it takes you to a different title number, and plays just that episode. If there's any way for you to choose the later, shorter titles on the DVD to rip, that's what you should do. Having 4 episodes in one file sucks.

I hope this helps, and I hope you find a good program to rip your stuff. I run OS X so I can't help you with the ripping on windows, but I'm sure someone can, the people at the handbrake forums are pretty knowledgable.

How do the ripped movies look on the video ipod? How much space does one take up? I imagine it's similar to putting DVDs on the PSP and there's definitely a way to break up the episodes. Try using DVD Decryptor or something.

can u use dvd shrink to split them into single show isos and somehow convert to a compatible vid format? New to the ipod so idk, i river all hte way :)

Movies look ok, the screen is really small, I mainly watch video on my computer.
For a 22 minute episode, it usually ends up being about 120-140 MB.

You know which parts of a DVD are individual episodes by their length.

You then put the IFO file in the input box of AutoGK, and voila!, you're done. Nice and easy.

This is a loose overview, so just ask if you have anymore specific questions.

I think I've figured this out using LiquidNight's methoed, but I really appreciate the help everyone put in.

Now I have a second hurdle. I have have a bunch of WMA songs (about 90) in a folder on my external drive. 1st quesiton is, will iTunes convert them (I have a another program that I know will but that'll save me some time if it does)? 2nd question is can I just import a whole folder somehow to iTunes? Because when I go to import it asks me for a file not a folder and I really don't want to import one sng at a time in this situation.
