Avatar clothing glitch (?)

So right after they did the dashboard update, I was browsing through the avatar clothing stuff. It was really lagging and would take several seconds for each item to load onto my avatar. Just for the hell of it, I went to the Gears of War outfit they had, waited for it to load on my avatar, and then quickly went back to the main avatar menu and clicked "save and exit" before it disappeared.

Well, lo and behold, on my xbox.com profile and on my gamercard sig below, I've got that outfit and I didn't pay for it. In fact, the only place I DON'T see it on my character is on the dashboard itself. Haven't tried any games that let you use your avatar as your player yet, but that's next on my list.

Anyone else had this happen?

Nope. I think you win.

What model (and year) 360 do you have? Perhaps it has something to do with a certain hardware configuration?

P.S. I hope that nobody here spends money on this shit. Just hold out, brothers. Hold out, and the prices shall fall!

It's an Elite from late winter/spring of last year. I doubt it has anything to do with that, it's likely just because the service was really slow at the time.

Wish I would have done this with something I actually wanted now instead of that suit. Oh well.

I noticed that I was able to put things on and then return the the "save and exit" section too. I was afraid of getting charged for something so I escaped to the dashboard instead.

Also I remember hearing on the Major Nelson podcast that people "stealing" avatar clothes were getting permabanned. But I think that was because they were doing an elaborate hack via a computer.

Yeah that was last weeks podcast. Basically E said they can track what items you have and compare to what items you paid for and permaban you if they don't match. Very risky glitch even though its not at all anyone's fault on this one.

I tried Bomberman and my regular clothes were shown. Looks like it only shows up on the XBox.com profile (and the sig cards by association)...so it appears this is pretty useless anyway.

Microsoft's.

That's horrible that you stole that outfit. Do you know how much money Microsoft invested into that? Over years of developing, testing and marketing. And all they are asking is for a measly 5 bucks. How dare you...

Good, racism and verbal abuse I can tolerate, but people who steal Avatar clothing MUST be stopped !! :nottalking:

Call me cheap, but the only thing more wacked then MS selling avatar clothing is the fact that people actually buy it!
