"Avatar" Sneak Peek

Let me clarify the post title, this is to see a 15 minute battle sequence of James Cameron's "Avatar", which is set to be released this Christmas, it is not to see the entire movie. "Avatar" will be shown in select 3D and IMAX 3D screens this Friday, August 21. You have to sign up at www.avatarmovie.com starting at 12p PST today, August 17. Maximum they are allowing is two seats per household, and it is totally free to get seats, but you have to sign up at website, the tickets will not be sold at box offices or online.

I keep getting this when I click showtimes:

Warning: file_get_contents(http://rsvp.foxfilm.com/rsvp/xml/movie/1) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: Connection timed out in /content/avatarmovie.com/html/ticketing/index.php on line 18

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'String could not be parsed as XML' in /content/avatarmovie.com/html/ticketing/index.php:19 Stack trace: #0 /content/avatarmovie.com/html/ticketing/index.php(19): SimpleXMLElement->__construct('') #1 {main} thrown in /content/avatarmovie.com/html/ticketing/index.php on line 19

Finally got it to load and got this:

Tickets to the special screening of select scenes from
James Cameron's new motion picture Avatar
are available beginning at noon (PST) on August 17.
Please check back soon!

Its gonna get hammered then and I doubt my city is even included.

I don't know if this means anything, but I recieved a promo e-mail from AMC Theaters and was able to sign up earlier this morning for passes. I checked the link again, and it said that the movie was no longer available for RSVP. I don't know if that means they are no longer taking requests from the e-mail to save the rest for the general public or what, but figured I share that bit of info.

I just got my confirmation e-mail, they are going to give you a theater, time, and however many seats you requested in an e-mail along with a code, I guess it's to verify the "tickets". They also ask you to bring a photo id when you go to the theater.

I'm trying to load it up now, but it says select one of the theaters below, and there are no theaters. Anyone else having this same problem?

I bet the website is getting slammed with people for requests, I tried the site for shits and giggles and got the same message as you.

I would be pissed if this wasn't just a 15 minute spoiler.

Probably for the best -- wouldn't want to ruin the potential movie-of-the-year, by watching the best scene out of context.

I got the email from amc earlier this morning as well, I signed up twice(4 total seats) at about 9am central time. That was 4 hours before you could sign up from the official site. So I don't know how they could not be all gone, just from the rsvp emails amc sent out.
has anyone got the email yet? And if so how long did it take?
ditto that...registered a few hours ago...nothing yet...God, we're nerds.

I actually had a problem with yahoo so I had to reregister on my gmail and got it within 10 minutes. So it could be yahoo blocking it.

Same here... I got it really quick on gmail.. yahoo nothing...

I just got 2 seats easily. The confirmation email came instantly. Used Yahoo mail and it went to regular inbox not spam.
Thanks OP.

Since its only a small scene and not the whole movie .. i'll check it out if i have some free time that day. Won't go out of my way to see it tho.

Thanks OP, I managed to reserved 2 seats. I want to reserve 2 more--does anyone know how to do that? It seems it tracks IPs and won't let me register again.

Going slightly off-topic; when the page loaded up and the music started playing, did it remind anyone of Ashenvale or any of the Night Elf areas from WoW? I don't play it anymore, but it did bring a sense of nostalgia when I heard it.
15 minutes is shit for me since i have to drive 2 hours to get to the imax :((
Yikes man.... Alot of people have them up on craigslist for sale... Im sure you could unload it on there if you cant make it...

We apologize for the inconvenience, but due to overwhelming demand to see the special scenes from James Cameron’s epic motion picture AVATAR, our AVATARMOVIES.COM RSVP site experienced technical difficulties. As a result of the crash you must re-select a screening time. Please note you may not get the original time you selected. Also new ticket confirmations that will be generated by your selection here will be the only accepted form of admittance.

Please click below and choose a new screening time.

Heads up to you folks... they had errors... this is so ridiculous...

I have two seats reserved for 6.00 PM.
