I am looking to see if any CAG knows of any methods of Bandwidth shaping on a network.
Here is the problem. I use to share an internet connection with just 1 person in the household, who understands how bandwidth works and that uploading and downloading on 1 pc can effect another drastically, especially with p2p programs.
Now i am sharing it with additional people who for some odd reason cant grasp that concept of bandwidth sharing. On their computers, they have multiple p2p programs which fire up on start-up and just terribly kill the bandwidth for everyone else. I've explained to them how bandwidth works. They just nod it off, and continue to do it anyways. It seems these programs are they only way they get their media. (its not Bit torrents, its some other language p2p program like kazaa)
Methods I have tried:
Ive tried installing netlimiter on their computers, unfortunately netlimter 3 beta is the only thing that works on windows 7, and even still the limiters for some reason dont work properly.
I've tried accessing these programs and setting an upload limit. These programs are so horribly written that they dont even have that option!
I use a linksys router with dd-wrt firmware, which i tried running QOS, but it limits everyone and not just a single user.
I'm currently looking into daisy chaining 2 routers, one with and one without QOS, but i seem to be running into connection issues doing that.
If there are any programs anyone knows of, or something i can do with my router settings, please let me know.
Things i have access to:
Entire network config, 2 routers with dd-wrt firmware, access to each PC on the network.
How does this relate to gaming? I cant
ing play fps or any ping relying game ever!
