Hello everyone, (I hope I'm posting in the right place)

I would like to get into the Ghost in the Shell and Fullmetal Alchemist series, but I saw so many different blu ray titles that seem like offshoots that I'm not sure where to start.

What is the best order to watch the Ghost in the Shell and the Fullmetal Alchemist series? Thanks!

Fullmetal Alchemist is easy, watch either series, Brotherhood is the most faithful to the comic book.

Ghost in the Shell depends on your mood. Comic book has more sex, movie is great.

My husband and I plowed through most of the GitS anime in 2013. The order we watched was:

- Ghost in the Shell (1995 movie)

- Stand Alone Complex

- Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig

- Solid State Society

We also currently have ARISE in our anime backlog. Haven't seen Innocence or any other GitS anime, and we've read the first single-volume manga (it was okay, and isn't Shirow's best).

Personally, I found the first season of GitS: SAC to be the best of the bunch, but your mileage may vary.

As for Fullmetal, I've mainly just read the manga, which is a masterpiece. Aside from that, I've seen a few episodes of the first anime series, but wasn't impressed; the general consensus among fans is that Brotherhood is better (and more faithful to the manga), but I haven't seen any of that one.

Watch the original Full Metal Alchemist first than after that go watch Brotherhood.

As for Ghost in the shell

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG
Ghost in the Shell: Arise

That's the order to watch it in

Proper GitS list:

Ghost in the Shell  (please stay away from that awful 2.0 release)
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG
Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society
Ghost in the Shell: Arise

Do note that the first GitS Movie and Innocence are in a separate continuity than Stand Alone Complex and Solid State Society.
