Best Buy or Circuit City for buying an HDTV

CAGiversary!
I've finally picked out a set and I'm looking for opinions on BB vs. CC. I'm trying to keep it to one of these two stores because I can get gift cards for both through my credit card rewards program and I almost have enough points to get a grand worth of them.

I know they both have a 30 day return policy without restocking fee, and they'll likely match each other's prices.

Other than that, anyone have any opinions between the two for buying an HD set?

Thanks!

I generally have bought all my tv's from Circuit City but not for any particular reason other than the tv was just on sale there or something like that. If you've already got the tv picked out then I would buy it from whichever store you felt like I guess. CCity also has a normal no questions asked for 30 days return it without a hassle policy so I don't know of any pro or cons as to which to go with over the other if you already know which tv you are getting and both places have it in stock. They also both do the price match thing.

A friend of mine recently bought a HD dlp projection set. We researched to find the best model in his price range, and once we picked the model, we looked at every place that sold it, both online and b&m.

Online retailers were a few hundred cheaper, but the shipping killed it. He wound up getting his tv from Best Buy.

As much as I hate to say it maybe BB with the recent reduction in staff at CC it might seem that if you run into problems BB will be there and CC may not... in reality I dont know how much help either would be after the 30 days and CC wouldnt go anywhere in that time frame anyways.

I got mine from Amazon, and I'd highly recommend it. The set (Samsung 1080P DLP HLS5687W)was $1999 at the time, with free shipping. The shipping company was a bit late, so Amazon even gave me a $30 credit on my account. When it did arrive, the shipping guy helped me unbox it and place it.

So the set I got for $1969 all told was about $400 cheaper than Circuit City or Best Buy, where I would have paid tax on it as well.

Check out Amazon; you might find a good deal.

EDIT: Well, I skipped over the part about your giftcards. I fail reading comprehension, apparently. I like dealing with CC over BB, though, when it comes to expensive electronics.

I would say bestbuy just because of the reward zone you can get an easy $20 in rewards assuming the TV is atleast $1,000

I'd say Best Buy as well, I think the double reward points are still in effect right now? So that'd be good to get on top of a great deal on a HDTV.

Out of curiosity, what are you getting and for how much?

I got my HDTV online, just look for a dealer with free shipping and no tax... saved about 500 on the sale price of Best Buy

Exactly. The "educated" (seriously, many of the people in TVs at Circuit City were *THE* employees to go to if you had questions) are now gone to be replaced by geniuses like the people who run the cash registers. (I ran a cash register in high school, but I've yet to be at a Circuit City where the cash register only person had a clue)

BB might be your best bet if you want to go the speciality store route.

I ended up buying mine at CC, due to the fact the nearest BB is 40 miles away. After dealing with the guy there, I should have just bought it at walmart.

We were set on this 42" Plasma they had for a decent price. Then comes this guy. He starts telling me of just how bad plasmas are and how they burn-in and whatnot and that we should get an LCD. He's like "we have some similarly size LCD's over here" (which were a good bit more than the TV we wanted). He was trying so hard to upsell us on these other TVs, almost turning my wife and I against each other. We ended up settling on a 37" that was several hundred cheaper than the plasma.

Since he got burned on that deal, he then to try to sell us a $70 set of component cables, since our TV "doesn't come with them." He was seriously standing right in front of the $20 set of cables, hoping I didn't see them. I told him forget it and if I really need cables, I'll just go to walmart for them.

We got home with our TV and sure enough, component cables were in the box. I swear CC switched their employees back to commission-based pay..

Online is the only way to go for an expensive TV. The better price and lack of sales tax will stomp any measly "gift card" programs the retail stores have.

I'm looking at the new Samsung LNT4661F and LNT4665F - trying to decide between the two. $2999 and $3199 respectively, but I'd wait for some sort of sale. Finally saw them in person yesterday, unbelievable.

I don't think you understood me. This isn't some 'program' at either of the stores. I have enough reward points through my credit card (CITI) to get a THOUSAND DOLLARS worth of gift cards to BB or CC. That's why I want to get it from one of them. If there's an online store that has the set for $1000 less, I'd be happy to buy from them.

This is interesting, because my parents want a new TV and I was thinking either BB or CC, since they hate buying things online (Horrified of the hackerz on the tubes, not to mention I guess they are a bit easier to return B&M). My problem with BB is that they ALWAYS fuck us on rebates. ALWAYS.

Wow good deal what credit card is this? I use my crappy ass discover for my points and should probably switch to something well more rewarding.

It's a 'Thank You Rewards' card through CITI. You get a point for every dollar you spend, but if you break it down it's pretty much a dollar for every hundred dollars spent. So getting $1000 worth of points pretty much meant spending $100,000 on the card. But it adds up after while with stuff like furniture, vacations, etc.

I've been saving these points to put toward a TV for nearly four years now and I typically charge whenever I can - I figure I'll get points for it and I since I pay the card off every month and never carry a balance, there are no finance charges and my money stays in the bank longer.
