I had them come out and was very pleased. The guy who came was knowledgeable and didn't cram a bunch of sales talk down my throat - his interest was clearing in doing installs, not selling merchandise. We looked at some difficult install/mounting situations that I have in a couple of rooms and he had a lot of good ideas. Installation has become the primary thing that most of these places are pushing now - the big box stores must be getting really minimal margins on selling actual equipment these days. But Best Buy's pricing for in-wall installations are actually competitive with having an electrician do the work, so if you're not handy enough to do it on your own, they're worth a listen.

As for the coupon, I expected some sort of runaround, e.g. "OK, now you call this number and they mail it to you in 12 - 100 weeks", or else just plain "oh, sorry - I forgot my stack of coupons". But the coupon is actually part of the pre-printed form that they use to write down your recommendations, so at the end he just handed it over. I used it the next day with no problems at the register - got $100 off a Panamax power conditioner that never goes on sale anywhere. Nice.

Honestly, the hardest part and the biggest hassle to this whole deal was scheduling. I called the 866 number and got transferred around three times over the course of 15 - 20 minutes before I ended up with anyone who knew anything about scheduling these consultations. Next time around, I'll try the in-store method.

So I'd say go for the consult. It's free to you and I actually liked the info that I got. And the $100 coupon was no problem, either.

I've never done it but I heard that the $100 off coupon has the typical "taken off regylar price, can not be used in conjunction with other offers / sales" fine print.
