My girlfriend of nearly 3 years is originally from Russia and her entire family speaks it quite often when we are together. As I am the only one that does NOT know Russian, I miss a lot. Also, one member of her family speaks NO English so we have no way to communicate.

That being said, have any CAGs used any software products to learn a new language? I'm starting from scratch and know NOTHING. Looking for recommendations on a good brand and what I can expect to pay (as well as opinions on whether you think they work).

Thanks in advance!

Agreed, but Rosetta is rather expansive - I think upwards of $200.

I bought some cheapo $30 Italian software from best Buy last year, and boy did it suck. Horrible interface, almost useless. Rosetta is expensive, but, from what I understand, worth it.

Also, look into your local library. I have heard that some libraries actually carry Rosetta Stone cd's. My local one doesn't, but of have yet to check out the massive library by my parent's house.

Just a thought.
Thanks - I will try out huge public library and if there is nothing, perhaps drop the cash on this Rosetta lady
Or use other means to get it ;)

If you have a DS then you can pick up any of the "My Coach" series of language software by Ubisoft. It's not the best software out there (like you requested) but it's a great learning tool for gamers.

At Half-Price books, they always have cheap language learning software. I don't know if there is one in your area...
