Best laptop for $500 or less??

I am looking to purchase a laptop for give or take $500... this is not for gaming. Its a gift for my girl. She will mainly use it for music and school. Any good deals?

If I was getting a laptop for just school and music I would go with something like the EEE pc (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213777&highlight=asus). It is cheap, it has a very long battery life, and it is easy to transport.

I'd checkout the Dell Mini 9.

I would look at the Dell Refubished site, they have a 90 day warranty(which you can extend) and have a great selection of laptops.

The Studio models are good for what you need. Check out this link, allows you to change the type of options you need.

Thanks for the input... I would love to give a refurb as a gift, but I dont think that would look so good :lol:
But I will check the new ones out

The refurbs look like new! You can only see a sticker on the bottom that says "refurbished"
But as a gift I understand your dilema. Also check out slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com for deals.
Also Best Buy does have new HP and Dell laptops for under $500 these days.

Dell refurbs look like new, I've gotten many an outlet computer from them with no issues and when needed get quick service.

I would checkout the Netbooks... all of them are fairly nice and small, maybe too small.

I'm interested in getting a laptop that isn't big, but big enough to have a good video card on it... it's painful to find out.
