This thread is to find out which are the best games to own for N64. I just rebought one and wanted some suggestions of games I should look out for. Also, I am happy because when I opened the expansion bay to see if there was an expansion pak included with it there was so that saves me some cash right there.

1080
Banjo-Kazooie
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Diddy Kong Racing
Donkey Kong 64
Excitebike 64
GoldenEye
Jet Force Gemini
Mario Kart 64
Mario Tennis 64
Paper Mario
Perfect Dark
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Star Fox 64
Super Mario 64
Super Smash Bros.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Wave Race 64

A few that haven't been mentioned yet:

Beetle Adventure Racing! - Sure, EA didn't port any of the PSX Need For Speed games to the N64, but they didn't leave the console deprived of an enjoyable racer, either. Pick a New Beetle and drive.

Blast Corps - An overlooked gem. It should be easy to find a used copy for five bucks or less. Get it and blow shit up.

Cruisin' USA - Midway published quite a few racers on the N64 that were based on their arcade games. This one is the best of the Cruisin' series.

Doom 64 - Goldeneye and Perfect Dark may provide all the FPS action some would need on their N64s, but FPS fans and those who want at least three shooters in their N64 collection should give this a try.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards - Kirby's transition to 3D may not have been as good as the 2D games, but it's still a good platformer. And hey, it's a lot better than that crappy cartoon show.

Micro Machines 64 Turbo - Here's something that wasn't seen much on the N64 - a 2D racer. Another overlooked game that's very fun, and one of the best multiplayer games on the console as well.

Pokemon Snap - If you can get past the whole Pokemon theme, you'll find a unique game in here. You take pictures of various Pokemon and the better the picture, the more points you'll get. You can play through it pretty fast, but there is some replay value if you decide to go back and try to get better photos.

Ridge Racer 64 - Another great racer for the N64.

San Francisco Rush - Much better than the PSX version.

Wetrix - If you're a puzzle fan, this is worth checking out.

I know it didn't get great reviews, but if you liked Shadowgate/Shadowgate Classic, Shadowgate 64 is pretty good. But I could see some gamers not liking it. Just my $.02.

The Kemco "point n click" trilogy of Shadowgate, Deja Vu, and Uninvited are some of my favorite games of all time. I mean, I did a speedrun of Shadowgate in 22 minutes... but I hated Shadowgate 64. :P

Banjo-Tooie, if you like Banko-Kazooie. I liked them both a lot, though like all those types of games there are a few annoying parts.

I'll go through my list of what I call "must haves" for the 64:

Extreme G/Extreme G II By far the best two of the series. Futuristic motorcycle racing, these had the best controls, crazy tracks, and lots of fun cheats (paper and pencil still a favorite)

F-Zero X Another futuristic racer. I think we all know what F-Zero is by now, and this is a piece of its lineage not to miss out on.

Forsaken 64 This is slightly different than the PC/PS version of the game, but a free floating 360-degeree FPS, disorienting, dizzying and fun for multiplayer.

NBA Hang Time IMO the best console edition of the Jam/Hang Time series. No load time, controls nice, but you need to enjoy the series. Also now the rosters are very dated.

Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey/98/Olympic Hockey All three of the games are generally the same, except Olympic uses international squads. A fun multiplayer, only issue again is very dated rosters.

Wipeout 64 It's Wipeout for the 64. Tracks and weapons that are exclusive to this version. Soundtrack is the weakest of the bunch, only version to support four players.

Other Games that were mentioned that I agree with:
Golden Eye
Mario Kart 64
Ridge Racer 64
San Francisco Rush
Super Mario 64
WWF No Mercy
-- oh wait that wasn't mentioned yet, it's the greatest grappler on any platform, ever, period.

This is the Shit right here!

Thanks for all the posts. I am buying some games from my local Gamestop with some credit I have.

The only things mentioned that they have that I will probably get when they have another B2G1 deal are:
Perfect Dark
Super Smash Bros.
Banjo-Kazooie

Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Tooie - I tend to actually like this one more than the first
Blast Corps - Like someone else said, An overlooked gem. It should be easy to find a used copy for five bucks or less. Get it and blow shit up.
Beetle Adventure Racing! - As someone else said, "Sure, EA didn't port any of the PSX Need For Speed games to the N64, but they didn't leave the console deprived of an enjoyable racer, either. Pick a New Beetle and drive." My own two cents on this game, it was one of the few racers that I liked back then. I can't count the number of hours I put into this game in mulitplayer.
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Cruisn' series - You might want to look into these if you like racers.
Diddy Kong Racing
Donkey Kong 64
Excitebike 64
GoldenEye - A must own for any video game library.
Jet Force Gemini - Great fun game that is vastly overlooked.
Killer Instict Gold - Great fighter on the N64
Kirby 64 - It's a fun quick game that you can continually come back to just becausr of how much fun it is.
Mace: The Dark Age - Most people will say that this is a crappy game but I just absolutely loved it back in the day and still do.
Mario Party -either 1/2/3. Personally, I like 2 as the best on the N64.
Mario Kart 64 - A must
Mario Tennis 64
Paper Mario - A must
Pokemon Snap - very innovative and addicting game.
Pokemon Puzzle League - One of the Best, if not the best, puzzlers on the N64.
Perfect Dark
Pilotwings 64 - An early N64 generation game but loads of fun
Star Fox 64
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire -One of my first favorite N64 games.
Super Mario 64
Super Smash Bros.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Yoshi's Story
Wave Race 64

I hope crymnl doesn't mind if I borrow his list and some of my own choices to it.

In My Opinion the best N64 games are

Super Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Paper Mario
Super Smash Brothers
Mario Tennis
Perfect Dark
Golden Eye
Banjo Kazooie
Legend Of Zelda
StarFox
Donkey Kong 64
Star Fox 64 is the only reason to keep around an N64. One of the best games Nintendo has ever made
:applause:

I have to agree with that!!!

I'm sorry but I saw someone added Body Harvest? One of the worst games ever..controls were terrible. As far as OP using B1G1 free don't use it on Perfect Dark, that game can be had for like 2 bucks (shoot I have one box and compete I would do for $3 shipped). If you want it PM me.

My personal N64 top 10. Keep in mind I avoided duplicating series or games too close together (i.e. Diddy Kong and Mario Kart, or WWF No Mercy and WCW Revenge).

10. Kirby 64: Crystal Shards - I'm a sucker for Kirby, and loved combining powers and the 2 1/2 D style.

9. WaveRace: Amazing water effects/physics, and sweet tricks.

8. Banjo Kazooie - Represents the best of Rare's platforming heyday.

7. Paper Mario - Unique RPG with cool art style.

6. Super Mario 64 - I didn't like it as much as most, but it's still killer.

5. Zelda: Ocarina of Time - I still prefer the 2D, overhead Zeldas.

4. WWF No Mercy - One of the best wrestling games ever released.

3. GoldenEye - The first great console FPS. Also very realistic (human enemies, realistic locales).

2. Pokemon Snap - Deus Ex's Warren Spector agrees that this is a great game. Scoring based on aesthetics. I still play it often.

1. Mario Kart 64 - Perhaps my favorite Mario Kart of all -- and that's saying something.
I really can't believe people are putting Yoshi's Story on this list...
I wouldn't put it on my favorites list, but I wouldn't call it one of the worst N64 games, either. If you don't go into it expecting a sequel to Yoshi's Island, it's a decent platformer. It was too short, though.

Mario Kart 64 is my favorite Mario Kart and my favorite N64 game as well.

Star Fox 64 - a definite must own
F-Zero X
Waverace 64
Goldeneye - another definite must own
Blast Corps
WWE No Mercy - one of if not the best wrestling game on any console
Body Harvest - an overlooked but good game overall
Zelda: OoT - its incredibly hard to not to love this game and I'm a Sega fan
Super Mario 64 - likewise
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - Can't believe I forgot this one, another good space shooter if you liked Star Fox.
The Sports games by and large were pretty weak imo but then again I thought this era in gaming (N64, PS1, and Saturn) was a low one for the sports genre, until the Dreamcast came out with its 2K series.

Any wrestling game from THQ on N64 was great. Much better than the crap ones that are put out today.

Nobody mentioned Twisted Edge Snowboarding, which in my opinion, was a good game.
Harvest Moon
Star Wars: Rouge Squadron
Ridge Racer 64
Mario Tennis
Poke'mon Stadium (wasn't half bad)
Bomberman
Jet Force Gemini
Poke'mon Snap
Super Smash Bros.
Paper Mario
Gex (wasn't bad series)
Mario Party
Mega Man 64 (same as Mega Man Legends for PS1)
Perfect Dark
Spiderman
Tony Hawk
Vigilante 8
Wave Race 64

I read, either on-line or in a magazine: don't remember, somewhere that someone did a comparison between the length of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story and that though Yoshi's Story has less levels, the level size considerably makes up for it since they are far bigger.

You people are forgetting Sin and Punishment which is just amazing...

banjo kazooie
super mario 64
zelda ocarina of time
zelda majoras mask
perfect dark
goldeneye 007
donkey kong 64
mario kart
wcw nwo revenge
crusing usa
mystical ninja

1. Perfect Dark
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/162702.asp
2. Conker's Bad Fur Day
3. Super Smash Bros.
4. Goldeneye 007
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/133447.asp
5. Super Mario 64
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/130529.asp
6. Mario Kart 64
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/133449.asp
7. Mario Party 2
8. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/144756.asp

In that order.

On a side note, I can't figure out why so many people list Goldeneye but not Perfect Dark.
You gotta pick up the Mario Party games....

...well, MP 1 and 3 at least.
I think 2 is easily the best Mario Party and 3 is easily the worst. What do you think is wrong with 2?

Oh my f---in' god! Those who didn't list Jet Force Gemini, DROP KICK!

It is easily the game that Ratchet, Jak, and all these other adventure games today builds on! It is one of the most amazingly detailed adventure games ever! When you get your robo friend, he has backlights that glow (like car lights) when he detects darkness. In numerous parts of the game, you will go from light, dark, light, and to dark again while battling the baddies. The lighting is also real time, so guess what happens: your robo buddy will light up exactly according to the shadows, so he will blink, blink, blink, everytime he detects shadows - flawlessly! It just totally blew me away!

Also, it is bar none, the most violent N64 game out there, non-fighting! LOL I laughed myself to crap when I went into a room, and saw a baddy run around the corner. I heard him shooting. As soon as I turn, I saw him shooting at the furry creatures and they blew up into parts with blood all over!

I cannot believe I have only seen 1 person post this, so I'm hoping I just missed it on other people's lists:

Space Station Silicon Valley

It was the best damn game DMA (now Rockstar North I think) made before being relegated to popping out a GTA every once and a while. It's incredibly original, fun and challenging. I also recomment Robotron 64, Star Wars episode 1 racer, Pokemon Puzzle League, & Harvest Moon.

Body Harvest owned. Huge levels, huge enemies that came out in the dozens, sometime filling up the entire screen ( at one point in Syberia, teh game can actually freeze).

I also really enjoyed Castlevaina: Legacy of Darkness as it was everything the first CV64 should have been. The Villa is the best level in Castlevania history.

Hybrid Heaven was pretty good, as was 007: The World Is Not Enough, and the Turok trilogy.

yeah, silicon valley is a kids GTA, i would post it but for the best, the competition gets crushed
You people are forgetting Sin and Punishment which is just amazing...
My GOD, I can't believe Sin and Punishment has gotten only one mention here, This should be in the top ten! Part Gunstar Heroes, part Panzer Dragoon. Wake up people!! After seeing mention of N64 castlevania the game that started a trend of crappy konami next gen titles? I had to speak out.

Figured you lot would be interested to know that there's a bunch of cheap N64 games at EBgames.com right now. I picked up:
Wave Race: $3.99
Blast Corps: $4.99
Star Wars: Shadows: $2.99
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron: $2.99
Turok 1: $4.99
Turok 2: $4.99
Mischief Makers $4.99

Plus, I used the CAG15 and SAVER codes, and my own EB Edge card to save some fat money on top of it. If only DOOM 64 was cheaper. Been wanting to get that again for a long time.
