Best place to buy a 360 that you'll possibly return opened?

CAGiversary!
With the recent RRoD of my current 360, I'll be without a console for the holidays. I was considering buying a 360 Arcade as a backup, so that I have something to play while I'm waiting for my repair to complete (and in the event that they send me another dud, which doesn't seem to be too uncommon).

I'm trying to figure out where the best place to buy this might be. If Microsoft somehow gets my 360 back in two or three weeks, I may just return the backup console if I haven't had a chance to play it (but have possibly opened it). I'm curious about which stores would have a flexible enough return policy to allow that (giving me a cash refund, rather than store credit, if possible). I would likely only be taking the system out of the box, leaving everything else untouched. I may just end up keeping the thing, as I could actually use a second console for certain occassions, but I'm weighing my options in case I do decide to return it.

Any suggestions? I'm not sure how these are coming packaged these days, and how possible it would be to leave the box and everything in 'returnable' condition if the system is taken out. If it's not easy to do, I may just leave it in the box until I decide whether or not I want to keep a second system. Thanks in advance ;)

You want to purchase something new, use it, then return it in a few weeks for your money back cause you're impatient?

 fuck outta hea'.

Just buy it and keep it.

GameStop. They're doing their "gift-mode" returns till mid-January - if you're looking to "borrow" one, you can buy it used and return it no-questions-asked in January instead of the usual 7 days.

I didn't say that I was going to open the thing up and play it for a month while I waited for my repaired 360 to return. I said that if I didn't have a chance to play it, that I may just return it, possibly opened. When deciding whether or not to keep the 2nd system, I'd like to at least test it out first, possibly check to see what drive is in it, if it runs hot/loud, etc.. I'm not interested in buying a second brand new system just to end up replacing it with a dirty old refurb within a year (I've already done that once, afterall). I'd also like to compare the system to my current 360 before I mail it to Microsoft. I guess I should have been a little more clear in my original post to avoid being accused of plotting return fraud...

Anyway, I do want to at least pick up a system now before it gets too close to Christmas and they are in short supply everywhere (or there are no decent deals), which is why I'm trying to figure out which retailers would be the best to buy it from. In the event that I do return the system, unopened or not, I'd prefer to be returning it to a place that isn't going to nail me with restocking fees, or any other kind of return hassle (ie: exchange for another console only).

Thanks for the suggestion... I never even thought of buying a used 360 as a backup. I'll have to look into prices. I'm a bit weary about picking up a used system, though, since my brand new 360 barely lasted a year. How does that effect the 3-year RRoD warranty?

The return policy sounds like it would definitely work out if I wanted to check out the system beforehand to make sure I wanted to keep it. I'll check their site to try to look up some more info on it.

Hm.. just an update, but according to Gamestop, their return policy is still only 7 days on systems, 30 days for defects. Still plenty of time to check over the system and see if it's any good, but it doesn't sound like the system could be returned in January. Perhaps that only applies to other merchandise.

walmart.. im surprised no one said that yet.. i'm not proud of it but i am ridicously impatient.. i've done the exact thing in the past.. walmart returned it with no problem.. all they checked was if the serial number matched the box and the receipt..
