Best place to get a 20/60GB HD for 360?

spzero

CAGiversary!
I just bought an Arcade, and being a former owner of a 60GB Pro, I miss the silence of installed games compared to disc-running.

Where is the best possible place to get a 20GB HD? Maybe even 60GB, but I'm looking for something less than $100.

20GB won't cut it.. you get much less than 20GB of usable space I think.. so a bit of DLC and then the most you can install is 1 game.

Yeah, that's fine. I'm only going to be playing a few exclusives here and there and I doubt I'll be buying much DLC.

My friend is also after a cheap HD so he can use the backwords compatibilty and not have to constantly delete save data. I know you can get refurb HD's but I have no idea if its worth it, I do know EB does carry them though.

Hmm honestly I'm not sure, I haven't heard any stories about 360 HD failure's, I guess a concern would be the overall usage of the HD; if a guy is selling a 20GB HD that he's had since Day 1 then there might be a concern.
id sell my 20gig for 30$ shipped in the states.
This being the CANADA forum, I don't think $30 shipped to the States would mean much to him.
Any disadvantages in buying a used HD?
I don't think there's much of a failure rate. They use laptop hard drives, which tend to be pretty sturdy AFAIK.

EB doesn't have cheap used drives, they're like $50 or something there? If you can't find a cheap used one locally, you can grab a used 20GB from DealExtreme for $31:

They have new drives for less, but they aren't legit, so they're not worth the risk.

With expensive investments like consoles, I'd rather like to get official stuff to minimize the risk.

I'll check out a few local stores and see what they are selling the HDs at. I prefer just going to the store and picking things up because I'm not too patient and/or don't like the hassle of buying things online

If I can't find anything worth the cash, this dealextreme website seems decent enough. However, I also might take you up on your offer game_fanatic if I can't find anything else.

No worries spzero, I don't imagine I'll be stuck with my HD for long, it's a pretty good deal (IMO heh) and with the abundance of people buying Arcade units this week, I think it'll sell relatively quickly.

If someone was interested in something more retail for an HD, Gamestop sells a 20GB Refurb Starter Pack for $59.99.

Was speaking to my brother and we decided that the best option might just be a 60GB, to be on the safe (and lazy) side.

So game_fanatic, check your PMs.

Thanks for sharing Andrew? Since you're in the States, I doubt it would have helped me anyway...

Geez, $99 for 60GB used and $130 for 120GB used at EB... Maybe the retail store option isn't the best unless I'm getting it new...

You can always just try craigslist/kijjiji, you won't have so many shipping/scam worries. Unfortantly they usually go as a bundle with the xbox, but you may be able to convince them to sell it to you seperatly.

Thanks for all your assistance. I bought one online yesterday and should have it by the end of the week hopefully.

Thanks again.

For those who haven't heard of this news yet, Microsoft is finally giving in and allowing users to use their preexisting harddrives to use on their 360 via USB.

However, it's restricted to only a 16 gig partition regardless of size of harddrive you plug it into. However, if you need another 16 gigs, just plug another one in and you'll be set to go.

While this is not the best solution, it's better than paying out the ass for a generic part with a pain in the ass casing.

I'd guess you can use a flash drive too instead of a hard drive. Just a guess though.

You could since it only asks for a USB connection. However, since it's Canada, we're still being raped in terms of solid state memory.

I'm stilll selling my 60GB HD with a 256MB Memory Unit for $60 shipped if anyone is interested; you could use the unit to transfer over saved game files pretty painlessly.
