Helloooo, my computer is seriously out of date and slowly falling apart. It has no sound, and it doesn't recognize my CD/DVD drive. So I was wondering when companies start to slash prices of their newest laptops.. Before/after/during the school year? Any specific months or dates? I figure right before August is when the prices would be highest for incoming students or something, but I could be wrong..

I know some companies mark down the prices of their oldest laptops, and even the "oldest" laptops now would be better than the one I'm using, but I would like a laptop that lasts a very long time.

Here are the requirements I'm looking for, just in case any of you have recommendations.
Recommended Minimum:
Intel i3, i5, i7 processor or AMD equivalent
4 GB RAM
250GB Hard Drive
USB port(s)
10/100 Ethernet Adapter, WiFi 802.11 b or g
Sound card, and speakers or headphones
1280 by 1024 resolution monitor

As for price, probably less than 700? I don't really know prices so I'm just throwing that out there.

Thanks in advance.

I've been seeing a lot of sales lately although I don't know when that peak time is. I'm sorta in the same situation, my lappy is a bit on the older side and my desktop was built at least 5 or 6 years ago. I'm kinda considering getting a new lappy to consolidate since I don't PC game anymore. The battery on the old one won't go half an hour so battery life would be a biggie for me. I'd also prefer a blank software package since I don't really want Win 7 or the other usual crap that comes preinstalled on everything. I guess I'll watch this topic along with ya.

The peak time to buy a Laptop is during the back to school shopping season. Most people think that it's black Friday but it's not.

Not only are stores/vendors/manufacturers fighting each others but it's around this time that coupon, point programs and rebates also give out the discounts.

I don't know your are but in NYC that season has been the best for laptop deals for the last 11 years.

Black friday is the worst day to shop if you ask me. Only the cheap junk is discounted in hopes you'll buy something more expensive instead. I guess with technology moving so fast it's always sale season on these items as new ones appear on the market regularly.

Do they still make docks for laptops? I'd still like to use my monitor and mouse when at the desk, but the whole idea of consolidating is to keep everything on one system (obviously) and to free up space due to not needing the extra hardware of a desktop.
