I have been starting to burn through my TV on DVD collection and was hoping to get some good new recomendations from you guys about shows I should look into. I don't watch much TV at all, so I rely on waiting until after most of these shows get DVD releases to weed through the good stuff. I mainly like comedies/dramas, or straight up comedies. Preferably stuff that wasn't too well known (IE: no Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, Seinfeld, etc..). Also I'm not very interested in Animes.

Just to give you guys some examples of shows I've liked here are a few:
Wonderfalls, X-Files, Freeks and Geeks, The Office (US and UK), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dead Like Me, Oz, Firefly.

I've been considering the following but would really like to get a bigger list. Undeclared, Life as We Know it, Veronica Mars, Entourage, Point Pleasant.

Any other recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Arrested Development, the UK version of the Office, new Battlestar Galactica, Scrubs, Farscape (Starburst editions only), Babylon 5.

I second Arrested and Scrubs from Kaijufan and would say that Veronica Mars is enjoyable, though I'm not sure why I continue to watch it.

I'd also recommend Six Feet Under, seasons 1 and 2 only, or Prison Break when that comes out. And, of course, 24 if you haven't watched it and are in the mood to have your mind blown.

Yeah, Lost is awesome. Just finished Season one. I'd suggest Prison Break when it comes out :) and CSI. Two of my fave. shows. Also, what about Curb Your Enthusiasm? So freakin good.
Noone said Lost?!

Yeah, Lost is awesome. Just finished Season one. I'd suggest Prison Break when it comes out :) and CSI. Two of my fave. shows. Up until last Season, Gilmore Girls (seriously).

Animated: Mission Hill, Oblongs, Home Movies, The Critic, Dr. Katz, Batman: TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Teen Titans

Anime: Escalfowne, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Azumanga Diaoh, etc., etc.

Random: The Adventures Of Pete & Pete, Clarissa Explains It All, and others I'll think of later....

I picked up Over There from Best Buy for $15, and really fell in love with it. It doesn't involve politics at all (which is refreshing for a war-based piece of media). A lot of the characters start off as typical stereotypes, but a few episodes in, and you find yourself really caring about these people and their situations (this includes the Iraqis who are caught in the middle of it all).

Check it out.

And I agree on Gilmore Girls...except for last season which sucked.

Entourage is also very entertaining too.

Definitely Scrubs.
I know its well know, but The Sopranos has been taking up my DVD player lately. I've never had HBO so im catching up.

Thanks for the recomendations so far! Keep'em comming!

Some of the stuff mentioned I do own (Scrubs, UK Office, Critic, 24), and a few others are definately on my radar (Mission Hill, Oblongs, Curb Your Enthusiasm).

Titus, Trailer Park Boys, Six Feet Under, and Lone Gunmen sound intriguing.

I 2nd the rec of Over There. Watched it when it aired originally on FX, really great show. Too bad it's ratings weren't good enough for a 2nd season. It's no comedy, but it's not any grittier than Oz. The Shield is also an amazing drama if you are in the mood for something hard edged. It's great from the pilot through to the current episodes IMO.

If you like Buffy and like comedy/drama type shows give Charmed a try.

You continue to watch it perhaps because it's bloody fantastic? Seriously, everyone should watch Veronica Mars Season 1 (at least give the first disc a chance, you will be hooked). And season 2 comes out on dvd August 22.

Honestly, I cannot recommend VMars enough. Plus, I am in love with her

IMO, the Shield is the best show on TV. I also agree with the folks who recommended Arrested Development and the UK version of the Office.

The Shield is a must, along with Rescue Me, Lost, and Arrested Development.

Since you liked Freaks and Geeks... do yourself a favor and pick up Undeclared... from the sale guy who created F&G, and another vote for The Shield.. burned through the first season in a weekend one time...

Most of these have been mentioned before, but all are completely worth your time. Going by the list you put up of shows you've enjoyed, you and I have extremely similar tastes.

Arrested Development
Farscape
Veronica Mars
Angel
Curb Your Enthusiasm
NewsRadio
Reno 911
and of course....Futurama

Anything and everything from HBO. My GF and I breezed through the first two seasons of Entourage over the last two weeks... couldn't put it down. I'm thinking of starting Deadwood soon.
if you liked buffy might as well pick up angel
Good pull, Angel is a no-brainer for a Buffy fan.

Deadwood is an awesome show too. As well as Rome, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Da Ali G Show, Epitafios, and The Wire.

Thanks again for more recomendations, it seems like Angel, The Shield and Millenium are getting lots of recomendations, I actually own all of the Angel DVD's (got them for my mom) and never watched them, even though I liked Buffy a lot I didn't really care for most of the characters in Angel, it always seemed to me that they were the rejects from Buffy for the most part. I have season 1 of The Shield, I've been waiting until I get the whole series to start watching it though. I'll have to check out Millenium.

I've also seen a lot of people recomending Arrested Development, I watched all of season 1 and for some reason I just couldn't get into, I didn't think it was all that funny.

I have (and have seen) most of the Cartoons people here are recomending, I'm more looking for shows that pretty much went under the radar or I haven't heard very much about.

Also can anyone that's seen Popular let me know how it is? It seems a lot like Freaks and Geeks, but I've never seen Popular so I don't know for sure.

Yeah, Undeclared is definately on my "need to buy" list, no worries ;)

I just had never heard of Popular before and was wondering if it was any good

Its good.....until it ends after 2 seasons.

I could recommend you tv shows on dvd all day long, but from what I've seen, the main one that hasn't been mentioned and is a comedy/drama that isn't well known is The Job...its just like Rescue Me except it's not well known and it was cancelled after the first season.

Ok, here's a list of TV shows that may or may not rock your world, but they're worth a shot. I know I love them.

Firefly
The Dead Zone
Northern Exposure
Ghost Hunters
Survivorman
Wildboyz
The Office
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Trailer Park Boys
Spaced
Sliders (But only season 1 and 2, maybe 3 if you feel you need more sliders love)
Over There
Lost
Supernatural (not sure if it's out yet)

I've been meaning to check out The Job, just haven't gotten around to find it for a decent price.

It's a classic, and most here are definitely too young to remember it, but Hill Street Blues. The NYPD Blue of its time, it was a great drama with lots of quirky characters and funny moments. Trust me, you'll fall in love with all of them.
