Best way to go from fat to slim

Hey guys,
I have a year-old PS3 80GB and am looking to upgrade/trade to a new 120GB slim. The reason for this is that I will be traveling a fair bit in the next while and would love to bring it with me, but the fat version is a big burden especially with airplane weight restrictions. I realize that I will take a bit of a hit for cash but if anyone has any ideas of the best way to do this that would be great.
I suppose one option I have thought of is sell the ps3 through Kijiji, maybe with a few of my finished games to get a bit more money. Then use that cash to buy a new slim.

Any other ideas?

buy the new ps3 before you sell your old one. That way you can do a lan transfer of the data and keep absolutely everything. Make sure to deactivate all your psn accounts manually first (especiallly if you're into gamesharing)

Isn't there just an option to format the drive back to default settings? I think I remember seeing it in the options somewhere.

There is. I just did it a week or so ago when I got my 250GB Slim off of Kijiji and the previous owner left his CC info on it..Luckily, I've got SOME ethics. lol. Took me 14 hours to format all trace of the previous owner off of the PS3 and return the PS3 to factory defaults.

Well another thing I was thinking of was using the backup utility to back everything up on an external hard drive. I believe that backs everything up, except maybe the user data. In which then I could just write down all my user names/passwords to input when I got the new PS3.
The thing is that I don't really have the money to be throwing around to go out and buy a new slim before selling my fat version.
I was also hoping that maybe someone had seen or heard of a trade in deal or a deal on a new slim.

Is your PS3 backwards-compatible? If it will play PS2 games, you might not take as much of a hit in upgrading as you expected. I'm seeing PS2-compatible 80GB units sell on eBay for around $280.

If it's not, I'd call Gamestop and see if they have some sort of trade-up deal going on, but your best bet probably is Kijiji.

na unfortunately it's not a bc unit. ATM I am advertising and looking for a used slim. If I can get one for a decent price then I will put mine up as well.
But if I do decide to buy new, does anyone know of any places that offer incentives with the sale? Ex. Extra game, free rentals, membership or points of sort.
Seeing how I don't think I will see an actual sale

On a side note I'm already damned skinny and do not need any weight loss tips :p

Update:
Well I think I may have found a like-new 250GB slim with everything + singstar game. I tried to get without game but its a package, plus a 250GB might come in handy for the future of my PS3's lifespan. They want $300 for it all, which is not too shabby with the 250GB selling for $350 + tax. If I can sell my 80GB fat for $200 ish or throw in singstar and a few of my finished games I might be able to recoop most of the money lost.

What do you guys think?
