Bestbuy lied and cancelled my order

kev

CAGiversary!
I'm not getting all whiny and saying I won't shop their again but just to bring it to light. Bestbuy sent me an order cancellation saying my item was no longer in stock. I went online, sure enough, it is in stock and more than double the price I ordered it for.

They couldn't have simply been honest and said "We're sorry, that was a pricing mistake, would you like to order it at X price instead?" No, they said it was out of stock and I could go online to order something else.

Pretty ridiculous which is sad because they usually treat me pretty well. I've already given up on CompUSA and Circuity City.

Don't you know that common courtesy and 'the customer is always right' went out the window years ago?

Seriously, I've had clerks ask a manager about lower prices on something, then override the price to the original one without even saying it was an error on their part. I've had managers grab mispriced stuff out of my hand or out and out just deny selling it to me because 'it must be priced wrong'.

I had that happen at a Circuit City with a game which was priced @ $1.96 in the system. The manager came over because SOMEONE was obviously very lax in their restickering(it had a $19.99 pricetag on it). She told me I could buy it for the stickered price or not at all. I told her they could keep all of the games then and walked out empty handed. Thing is, I had it PC'd in the media dept before I even went to a register and it CAME UP the $1.96 price there too.

So yeah, expecting a company to honor even their OWN pricing error is kind of futile anymore. Unless you happen to live in a state where price errors are required to be honored by the state. Unfortunately, I do NOT.

^ I would have complained to corporate about that, it's not your fault they are too lazy to update their price tags.

I had that happen at Sears but they honored it, Madden 06 for the 360 was $1.97. They all gather around the register and say how that can't be right (despite it was weeks before 08 came out), and it was a mistake. They go onto Sears.com and show me it was $11.97 and someone must have entered the wrong price. I pointed out that was the original XBox version and got them to honor it. Again, they hadn't updated the pricing as it was $1.97 at 3 Sears (but OOS at 2)

As for Best Buy honoring a pricing mistake, I wouldn't expect them to (even though it would have been nice if they did). I couldn't even get them to honor their own coupon. I had a coupon saying $5 off ANY GBA accessory, no minimum or brand listed. They refused to let me use it on a $4.99 item. I complained to corporate, their response was manufacturer's coupons usually have restrictions, the manager was right and their decision is final. Except it was NOT a manufacturer's coupon but a Best Buy coupon! Between that and other problems I only buy clearance items, loss leaders and penny items at Best Buy now (aka a Devil Customer)

That's weird. I went to Circuit City before the ad ran advertising all the $8.96 games we recently had, and they hadn't done ANY restickering yet (in fact, they were about to start; had the price sheet on a cart by the PS2/PS3 section). I went to the register with 3 games all stickered at $59.99 with a final cost (tax included) of less than $30. The cashier's jaw dropped, and shortly formed the words "are there any more left?" :p

Either way, the folks at my local BB & CC are all pretty cool, but most of the stuff that doesn't work "universally" doesn't seem to fly, either (like the KMart Saw 4 PM). Although I do shop at BB frequently, so maybe they're all nice to me cause they know me.

True. I guess I throw up red flags since I only seem to bring up cheap games, penny guides and try to PM deals that has them losing money. So, I guess I'm a devil customer to them, which is why I get the brush off.

I honestly would have been ok if they simply said it was a pricing mistake. They didn't though, they said it was out of stock. That's the part that is annoying me. Oh well, I sent an email asking for an explanation, we'll see if anything comes of it.

Yeah, same here. I found La Pucelle stickered for $50, it rang up $2, and then I was told "Oh, that's a mistake, we can't sell it that cheap." An obvious lie, but rather than charging me $50 the cashier charged $10. I'm sure he pocketed my $8, but what an asshole.

Call. This happened with Lost Season 3 blu-ray for me. I called and said why was i told it was out of stock (it was a preorder at the time) and they couldn't explain to me so honored the original price.

Just to update, the email response said "Sometimes we lose orders when the site updates. I see that the item is now in stock, you can order it again."

My reply "Why would I want to order it now that the sale is over?"

We'll see what happens next. I also realized I used a giftcard for part of the dang order, hope that doesn't get messed up.

This happened to me with the Blue Ray Lost a couple of months ago, I called them three or four times and finally got them to honor their original price. Call, tell them about the e-mail, they can check the price you ordered it for, and politely insist that they reinstate the order at the original price since it was a mistake on their part.

Well, to BBs credit, the next reply the guy said it was a pricing mistake after all and they'd be sending $15 gift cards to anyone who had their order cancelled.
