Bioshock 1 & 2 - $5 each @ GamersGate

I don't care for steam and am tired of hearing about it. It's GFWL though so you'll get achievements, online play and such. $10 for both games is a steal.

Thing is, will the dlc for bioshock 2 be compatible with this? Noticed the box art is UK? Hope it'll work in the U.S. thanks op!

*read that it does not support xbox 360 controller so beware*

I don't know for certain about the DLC, but I would think it would work just because it's GFWL and you'd have to download it off the marketplace, no?

Yeah I think it'll work as far as dlc. If u wanna use your 360 controller you'll need to get s program like xpadder to map out the keys to controller so that sucks. Damn 2k got lazy..

I wasn't trying to turn anyone away with my comment about it not registering on steam. I really like steam and am still getting it from gamersgate, I just wanted to put as much relevant info in the OP that I was aware of and that I thought would be helpful.

I wanted to throw my $.02 in....

Please do some research prior to your purchases. While I am still a PC gaming noob, I just jumped on this deal. Well in the past 6 hours I have learned some interesting things.

1. Bioshock 1 seems to have problems with directx/sound/pigs/blankets, and I managed to hit two of them. I was finally able to get it running after some investigation.

2. Bioshock 2 does NOT support a game controller. I know you PC guys are gonna be all like " Well why on earth would you want a gamepad, why not just get a pad for your v@gina? Well I have no good excuse for you. And yes you can ghetto rig you something nice if you want....and if you do, it would be awesome if you can help me out with setting that up- you would be my "BIG DADDY" if you know what I mean - no, but really, it would be super awesome if someone wanted to.

But other than that, I am loving me some gamersgate. All I have heard is how awesome Steam is, and I want to buy into the hype. But they haven't had any big reason to get me to look at their store, with the exception of tf2 and my ps3 copy of portal 2. But they haven't given me a reason to put those cc numbers on their databases yet.

GG is the least intrusive of all the digital distributions, as far as I can tell. I'd wholly recommend the service to anyone who doesn't like clients, DRM, or download limits. They have none of the above, aside from Bioshock 2's GFWL.

Weren't they both $5 each on Steam not too long ago anyways? For me, it's always just nice having everything tied up on Steam with a nice bow... And if I have to pass on these games for a couple of months to do that, so be it. It's like two major sides and nobody in the middle: People who won't buy games if they don't activate on Steam, and people who bitch about people who won't buy games if they don't activate on Steam.

According to www.steamgamesales.com, Bioshock 1 dropped to $5 three times in the past, and Bioshock 2 dropped to $5 one time in the past.

They'll hit this price sometime again in the future, so I have no issues with waiting. If they weren't GFWL games, which means I have to buy the DLC from GFWL marketplace, I'd pick them up.

Looks like the games retain the original publisher's DRM, however. The Bioshock page on gamersgate says that the game uses SecuROM.

Get a program like Xpadder (or a dozen other variants). For non controller supported games, all you really have to do is assign the keyboard/mouse functions to whatever button on your controller (since most games use WASD for movment, you would assign those to the D-pad or analog stick for instance). Xpadder right now costs money, but I believe there are old freeware versions out there, or there's a ton of programs that do similar services.

They're on par with D2D, and both lag behind GoG. :D

GamersGate does sell some games with heavy-duty DRM and installation restrictions. I bit on the Arkham Asylum GOTY deal on GamersGate Sunday... knowing full well that it uses SecuROM and has a 4-machine installation limit. (The Steam version has a similar restriction).

To the guy who complained about constantly hearing about Steam - I feel your pain. Gone are the days when we could just talk about the games... the language of PC gaming is now dominated by talk of DRM and the various digital distributors. And unfortunately, the first question whenever anyone posts a deal is "will this activate on Steam?"

I'm certainly happy with my Purchase through GG of Batman AA the yesterday. And as an added bonus that I was not expecting.
It does activate as a "Games for windows" game. So it Does give XBOX AChievement points.
I expect the same will be true for bioshocks.
Any problems with the xbox 360 controller for Bioshock 1?

Um, all versions of Batman AA are GFWL.

Bioshock 1 does not have achievements as it is not a GFWL title.

The xbox 360 controller works very well natively with Bioshock 1.

Thanks for the heads up.
I didn't know only GFWLive titles had acheivements. But good to know.

THanks for the info on the controller.
I'm going to pick up a wired one for me pc. Just so I don't have to worry about interfeance with other devices.
