When I went to Blockbuster on 10/01 a sales associate was handing out flyers promoting a trade in promotion at the store starting October 5th The flyer claims that games and DVD's qualify for store credit, and it also claims that everything is worth at least $8. This is a great alternative to trading items at eb or gamestop or what have you, however, it only lasts for a limited time, and no, I do not know how limited the time is so don't ask. I'll just type out the flyer so I'm not flooded with questions.

worth $8!!!

EDIT: Hey guys, sorry for the lack of specifics. I went to the Tinley Park, IL Blockbuster. What I typed in under the post is the flyer verbatim, so I'm not sure about ps1 games, although I would be inclined to say yes on those seeing how my Blockbuster sells them. I really need to capitalize on this deal.

Geez, I hope this deal is legit in illinois. It sucks since there isn't any gamerush here so if this is true this'll be the closest us illlini will get to having a gamerush

Wow, this would be awesome. I could trade in some old sports games and get NBA Live 05. I gotta check mine out.

Oh, any idea if they will give you $8 for psone games?? Or would it be just next-gen systems...

Any idea if the $8 is store credit or pure cash?

I could make a lot of money on this deal pretty easily...

The 8 bucks would be trade-in credit, not cash. I was just at my local BB yesterday and I didn't see anything. YMMV is my guess.

As far as I know, my local BB is doing the trade-in deal but its only for DVD's. Didn't hear about an $8 minimum.

Also, I remember them doing a similar deal in the past but the credit could only be used on select movies. Don't know if it will be different this time.

So they'll accept used DVD's and give $8 minimum?

He;ll, you could buy a Gasaraki boxed set from Right stuf for $35 and then trade it in for nearly double your money.

Gamestops usually sell used anime DVDs for cheap, sometimes as low as 2-3 bucks. You could pick up several of those and make some nice money, and then buy some games or controllers.

Just a thought.

Reading the first post, it could mean that it will only get a fixed price of $8 right?

So even if you trade in a new game like Fable you'll get $8?

They should word it better. If it's $8 minimum, they should say "We'll add an extra $8 credit to each DVD/game traded in.

I need some clarification.

I'm sure that you get at least 8 dollars. Like, normally on old sports games you'd get maybe a dollar or so, but with this, you'd be guaranteed at least 8 dollars.
thanks cheapy d, but does that ad still apply. it says for the month of September?
I couldn't say, but an employee handed one to me about 2 hours ago.

Does the $8 include ps1 games? Anyone know? I know they currently have the deal at gamerush with ps1 games if u trade in 3 or more you get $3 extra as opposed to the $5 this gen deal.

Anyone know anyplace that runs or is running a bare minumum trade in for cds? Like at $5 apeice? I'm looking to ride myself of a box or 2...thanks.

crap if this is true then I screwed up, I traded like 16 dvds for $5 (yes it was a minimum of $5, the newer ones brought like $6.50 or $7, *Store Credit*) so if this $8 min offer is legit, I would have missed out on a possible extra $48 of store credit...crap

I talked to 4 blockbusters AND the regional manager today about this. Its JUST dvds. Maybe some stores are doing the games to but assume its very YMMV. Corperate sent out an email for the $8 thing. The games thing (if yours has an offer) isnt inclusive of this offer so its prob something that particular store is doing.

Hmm, well my flyer definitely mentions game trade ins not just dvds (sorry I would scan the flyer if I had a scanner). The flyer says "everything is worth $8!!!" This makes it sound like you would get a flat $8 for everything, but a) that would make no sense whatsoever and b) the sales associate said everything earns you at least $8 like I said in the first post.

Hastings occassionaly does these deals. There is one in McKinney and Denton.

Does Blockbuster sell new video games? I'd take advantage of this if they sold Mario Party 2. :D I've got some crappy dvd's that I'd love to offload. :D

$20 for Halo is very impressive. I hope one of my BBs nearby is doing this offer, and has some good games in stock.

$20 for Halo is very nice but it's kinda like FYE, good trade-in values and crap prices on new stuff. Plus, I don't think any of the Blockbusters around here even sell new games.
I also work at Blockbuster/Gamerush and the deal is only on dvd's...sorry folks.
Why do people keep saying this? Several people, including cheapy have already confirmed this at their Blockbuster. Its valid at my Blockbuster in Austin, Texas. So while it may not be at every one, its certainly at some of them. Just call your local BB.

None of the BB's in the North Chicago area are good...the employees all give me the same story: we've never heard of such a thing so it's a no go... unless they're all clueless...

As stated earlier, games and dvds are two different promotions. The only nationwide promo is the dvd (i saw the email) You store COULD be doing a games deal but its YMMV. As far as calling, I wouldnt bother, I called four different stores and got four different idiots. You need to bite the bullet and go up there. If its far, then decide if its worth it if you get shutout.

hell if its 8 buck min on all dvds I can go to the pawn shop pick up dvds for 3 bucks each. 7x8 = 56 3x8 = 24 i can pick up paper mario 2 for 24 bucks and have 3 bucks left over for candy
Is this only at Blockbuster/Gamerushes or can you go to any Blockbuster and trade in DVD's?
This flyer came from a Blockbuster with no Game Rush.
The back of the flyer has the DVD trade in values.

The Blockbuster I received the flyer from came from a Blockbuster without a gamerush. And stop saying "This is only for dvds" maybe your blockbuster has a dvd only deal, but mine includes games.

Does Blockbuster sell systems, because I have enough crap games to maybe get one with store credit? Or at least enough to make the system within my price range. ^^;

I don't think I've ever seen a system for sale at my local Blockbuster. I've seen new games, used games, and PS1 game, but I don't recall them stocking any next-gen consoles.

You have to call around to see which stores in your area carry/can get systems. Took me 4 tries before I found the main one that does. My only worry is, since they sell so few I wonder if their stock is old and probably Thompson drive xboxes. :(

Awesome I'm definetly getting rid of Jaws:The revenge for 8 bucks, considering I only payed 5.00$ for it

Anyone think that BB will pre-order next-gen systems maybe? I may just save up my store credit and use it to buy a PS3. :D

There is a deal going on where if you trade in 3 or more games from the 4 major consoles then you get $5 for each game (bring in 4 games then you'll automatically know that you'll be getting 20 bucks)

The minimum for a dvd now is $5...so for a short time it's going to be $8, it wouldnt make sense for them to do that with games..they would lose way to much money.

Do you think Blockbuster wants to lose money? Hell no.

Yeah, theyd do it. Although, since you can barely find current hardware there, dont expect to pick up your PS3 until 2009. :p
