I'm not sure when this deal went live and I'm not sure what day it ends, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.

Borderlands is only $7.49 at the Games For Windows Live Marketplace as the Deal of the Week.

You have to install the Games For Windows Live client to access the marketplace.

I honestly never pay attention to GFWL and have only used it to get Tinker back after I upgraded to Windows 7. I didn't even know that had a Deal of the Week.

yea i saw this on slickdeals yesterday and thought i should post that its a good deal but im far to lazy :) im glad somebody did it.

You can't add a Borderland Retail key to register on STEAM.

So no download from Steam or Steam Achievements for you.

Second, Borderlands is not even a GFW title, let alone a GFWL (achievements) title, it is just available from the marketplace as Games on Demand.

It does have native support for Xbox 360 controller, but it doesn't have the changed onscreen prompts to go with it, you'll still see the keyboard commands flash on screen.

Still a great price if you want to play Borderlands vanilla on PC and missed out on the Steam sale a while back.

Here is a decent list of whats a GFW title, GFWL title, and what other games are available on the PC Games on Demand channel of the marketplace that are non GFW/GFWL.

Loomis is making it sound like this is quite an inferior version of the game. I already own this on PS3 but I'd like to pick it (and the expansions) up for PC since I don't have my PS3 with me. Since I already have the game and don't absolutely need it right now, would you guys recommend I just wait for the next time it goes on sale at steam? Perhaps during Black Friday sale?

They were added in a patch fairly recently; if you check the update history on Steam, you should find it. I think you'd have to start playing again before it added them to your account--or you might have to go through the whole game again to get them; I'm honestly not sure how that works. I just noticed that when I was playing the vanilla game, I had gotten past the first few areas and was somewhere in the middle of the story when achievements were patched in; when I fast-travelled back to the starting areas, it unlocked the "discovered xxx area" achievements for those areas.

I have it from the steam sale and you can trick it into showing you the xbox or ps3 controls. If you select xbox the menu for multiplayer even says xbox live :)

http://borderlands.answers.wikia.co...ntroller_icons_instead_of_keys_for_PC_version

The below instructions will change in game menus to reflect the Xbox360/Playstation Controller. The menus will display buttons instead of keys( A/B/X/Y instead of [Enter] [Escape] etc)
These changes are graphical only, they do not affect game play. The text on some options may also change, but their effects will not change. ("Online Game" may change to "Xbox Live")

(Close Borderlands before editing continuing or the changes may not save)

1) Locate "WillowGame.ini" in your Borderlands folder (ex. My Documents/My Games/Borderlands/WillowGame/Config/WillowGame.ini)
2) Open "WillowGame.ini" in a text editor (ex. Notepad)
3) Seach for "FakePlatform" in the file
4) Change "FakePlatform=-1"
"FakePlatform=-1" for PC(Default)
"FakePlatform=1" for Xbox360
"FakePlatform=2" for PS3
5) Save the file

Open Borderlands, on the main menu you should notice [Enter] has been replaced with a button graphic.

You won't have much luck. Steam doesn't allow you to activate Borderlands according to the official list.

I don't think Borderlands even has a CD/serial key, so I wouldn't expect them to do like UT3 and add it later.

The next time you load up the game you'll get a ton of achievements. Granted, you'll still be missing a lot of the ones you should have received, but you'll get lots of the ones that deal with unlocking inventory slots, reaching x level, and things of that nature.

Yeah sorry for the bad info. I thought BL was one of the games you can add on Steam. Normally I'm good about this sort of thing, 1,000 apologies. Going to edit my original post.

Changing the .ini files for disabling mouse smoothing made a shit ton of difference for me. Not to mention disabling the intro videos from when the game first loads up.

Already got this on the 360 because at launch the PC version had very difficult to read text @ 1080p, and you could not do much to fix it according to the steam and borderlands forums.

I was hoping/expecting the PC version to be far superior to the console version, but it's pretty obvious they started with the console version and then ported up to the PC. Multiplayer is done via Gamespy, menus are clunky, fonts and screens are formatted for lower res screens, and while cheats are abundant, there is very little in the way of mods, and NO official mod support... It made me sad to play it and see that the PC version got the shaft.

Note that I only played the release version, not sure what has been fixed in patches.

Stick with the console version if you have a choice.
