is SLITHER a comedy??? cause it dont look like a horror show to me
I think it's meant to be one of those campy horror flicks, like "The Toxic Avenger" or other such film.
Aww crap, I voted Slither by accident. Meant Ice Age.
I still want to see Slither myself though. Gonna be tough picking a movie to watch this weekend.

I voted for Ice Age: Meltdown. It's a movie for the kids which means young ones and their parents and theres plenty of kids my age (16-25ish) that will go see it because thats what we do. Ballroom dancing and charm school sounds like a winner though, I'll see that if I can get someone to go.

Ice Age, easily. However, Slither looks like the coolest flick of the weekend.

Oh, and some early reviews of Basic Instinct 2 are out...apparentally, it's "going to go down in history as not only one of the worst sequels of all time, but also one of the worst films of all time. Come video, it may just have an 'Alan Smithee' credit festooned to its title sequence."

Ice Age obviously is going to be #1 but I'm hoping that slither pulls ahead. Funny thing is that slither has been pulling in some great reviews so far from a couple of places and it actually looks like a fun horror/comedy just like shaun of the dead.

Ice Age will easily make the most money, c'mon...its a kids movie, all kids movies seem to make a crap load of money.

Look at Hoodwinked.....I had never even heard of that movie and it was number 1 at the box office the weekend it came out I believe.

So a sequel to a huge kids hit like Ice Age will sure to bring in tons more. But I am still going to see Slither and Ice Age this weekend. :)

Ice Age will be number 1, although if I were to go to a movie this weekend it would be Slither, especially since Nathan Fillion and Jenna Fischer are in it.

Since it seems that no one else has mentioned this interesting little article, I suppose I will be the one to educate the masses. Apparently, after making the movie "Awesome; I fuckin' Shot That! [limited]", the Beastie Boys returned every single one of the cameras to where they bought them. Here's a link to the article. And here's the article itself:
To make their new concert movie, the Beastie Boys distributed Hi8 videocams to 50 fans at a 2004 show in New York City - and asked them to record everything they saw. MC Adam Yauch then combined his favorite bits from the 100-plus hours of footage into a feature film, Awesome; I fuckin' Shot That! We asked Yauch to rap a bit about the experience. WIRED: Where did you get the idea for Awesome?
YAUCH: One night, I was prowling around on our Web site's message board and found a phonecam video clip that someone had taken at one of our shows. It was really grainy and shaky, but I loved how it was shot from eye level and showed a personal take on what was happening onstage. I thought it would be cool to apply that approach to a full-length concert film, so that it actually feels like you're watching a concert and not some big, overblown MTV video.
How long did it take to get the project off of the ground?
I was on a mission - it was about three days from the time I saw that clip online to when we shot the film. We had a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, so I posted a message on our site asking people to send me their seat numbers. I used a seating chart to map out the 50 positions that would give us the most coverage and best angles in the venue.
Where did you find that many Hi8s in just three days?
Most places don't have that many analog video cameras in stock. So we bought a couple from one place, a couple more from another, and so on. In addition to the Hi8 cameras, our friends were shooting six Panasonic DVX100A cameras.
And our live show included other cameras: two surveillance cams on the DJ booth, another at the top of the truss looking down at the stage, a rig with a computer hooked up to a series of cameras that created a bullet-time effect, two beta cams - one at the back of the room and one handheld up front - and a Sony PD-150 with a wireless transmitter. The opening helicopter shot was done on a Panasonic 720p HD VariCam.
What'd you do with the Hi8s when you were done filming?
We put them back in their boxes and returned them for a refund. This is low-budget filmmaking, after all. Plus, what the hell am I going to do with that many camcorders?
How long did it take to edit the film?
My editor, Neal Usatin, and I worked on it for about a year. There are more than 6,000 edits in the final product.
What were some of the coolest moments?
There were lots of little personal moments. I especially think of one close-up shot a guy took of his girlfriend lip-syncing to one of our songs. And there's footage of some kids sneaking backstage. You're seeing pretty much exactly what the people who were there saw.

Jeez, I didn't realize how many wide release movies were coming out this week. It's too bad Slither will end up getting steamrolled by Ice Age 2. After all, if there is anything this cynical moviegoer has learned, well-reviewed movies which mix genres, can't be easily classified, and don't have any big stars will fail at the box-office :wall:

Man I'm going to have my hands full this weekend. Between ATL, Ice Age 2, Slither, and Basic Instinct 2 the theater will be packed.

I know ATL is going to do the best around here, but Ice Age 2 will certainly give it a run for its money.
Congratulations to you all, and congrats to our first two repeat pickers: I AM WILLIAM H MACY and Lice!
i missed the first two threads, but i'm 2-0 so far. this week's pick is ice age. family comedy cg films are usually big business, along with their sequels.

Except for Hoodwinked. That movie did pretty poor.

I just looked at the theatre counts, if Ice Age isn't #1, someones going to be in trouble.

Ice Age 2 - 3,962, next highest, Slither - 1,943. Ice Age will play in over double the theatres then any other release.

Slither already has 91% at rotten tomatoes and Ice Age 2 has 63%. I'm definitly going to see Slither oh and Basic Instinct 2 has 12%, which is just hilariously bad.
