Boxwave Screen Protector Review

After a botched shipment (USPS said it was delivered...but I never got it) I finally got Boxwave Screen Protectors for my and my gf's DSs. Here's what I've decided after installing two of them and spent a little over a week playing with it installed:

It's a quality product, but it takes some effort to get it working properly. The protector is slightly smaller than the screen itself, so it's easy to mount it a little too high or a little too low or a little crooked, which means that the edges can be sometimes be seen while playing -- even then it's only when the screen is especially dark; bright screen disguise the edges perfectly well no matter how badly you've insatalled the protector. The nice part is that the adhesive on the back of the protector allows for removal and re-application so screwing up a few times isn't so much a long-term problem as a short-term annoyance.

And it *is* annoying. The protector is pretty stiff, so it doesn't flop all over when you're trying to install it, but like any protector, dust getting trapped is a real concern. It's pretty much impossible to not trap any dust, but only particularly large bits will be visible while playing. Those can be distracting, so it's worth redoing it. If you get it on right, though, the protector is completely transparent while playing and only very slightly visible when the DS is off. Note: it does take a coupel of days for all of the corners to really decide to lay down nice. Don't know why, but Boxwave's FAQ mentions it, so it's not uncommon.

As for the feel of the protector, there is some difference versus the unprotected screen. I had planned to install it the first day I got my DS, but because the first shipment got lost somewhere, it was about a week and a half later before I was able to do so. And so, I felt the difference. With the protector in place, the screen feels slightly harder, slightly more stiff. You don't have to push any harder on the screen to register contact, but you can definitely feel the change.

In all, I'm very satisfied with this protector. The fact that screw-ups are supremely fixable is great --you can even wash the thing and reapply it should it become dirty though I find scotch tape to be the quickest way to remove stuff stuck to the underside.

I'll have to check these things out... but my screen has all kinds of scratches on it now. Can you send it to N for replacement screens? It'd be nice to have a scratchless screen and slap a protector on it.

You can send it in, I believe.

I've always thought screen protectors to be more trouble than they're worth. The screen scratches, boo hoo. That's how I view it.
