Hey all, I hope this is the right thread to post this in..

I`ll keep this short, since I know not many people want to hear about my whining and such. A few weeks ago, my ps3 randomly fell victim to a YLOD. I opened it up, tried a fix; and to no luck, it didn't work. I pretty much went hardcore that week to try to figure out solutions/repair it. But I gave into buying a new slim off of amazon.. From what I've been reading everywhere, I can't get my saves back- and worse off I cant get my information off of my HD in the system.. I'm hoping a simple change of my ps3 password will fix that problem, but.. The skeptic in me is worrying.

So, instead of me going out to gamestop and trying to trade in my console and eventually making an idiot out of myself.. Do I have any options as far as getting cash back for my 80 gig? Or is my only option at getting something in return calling sony, and spending an additional.. probably 175 here.. to get a used one back?

Thanks all,

Don't quote me, but I'm not even sure Sony will fix it if they find out you have opened it.

That being said, check around online or locally for someone that fixes PS3's. It might cost you a litlte, but at least it will be working and you can then sell it.

As for moving saves/HD content - you are out of luck there. Sorry man

Well you could take the hard drive out of the old ylod ps3, pop it in your new slim ps3 and save your game saves/content to a usb flash drive/ External hard drive then format the old ps3 hard drive
and put your slim hard drive back in the ps3 slim and copy everything over to the new HD from the usb. Its worth a shot.

I'm 99% sure that won't work. If you put a DIFFERENT hard drive into a PS3, the first thing it makes you do is format the hard drive.

So anything on that old drive will be wiped out before you even get to use the USB.

You can sell YLOD PS3s on eBay to get back some of the money, people buy them and try and fix them to resell I guess. Not much but better than nothing.

I've called Sony, and unless they lied to me, they will fix a ps3 that's been opened. The only thing opening it does is void the warranty, which I'm sure expired on your 80gb a long time ago. They currently charge $150 to fix it.

So you did a Reflow and it didn't work? The only way to get your saves back from your old PS3 is to get it to work again, by sending it to Sony you gotta ask yourself : is it worth $175? Putting your Hard drive to a different PS3 will automatically format that hard drive, so don't do that. So I say try a reflow again and maybe you get lucky, else just ebay it.

You were wise to get a new PS3, because if you could have fixed the old one it will break down again anyway. My 4 year old 60GB PS3 Ylod twice then I decided to get a Slim while I can transfer all my saves and deactivate my gameshares. I am not sure that it can be fixed on a 3rd reflow.
