Dang. Is it being developed by Gearbox or someone else?
I think it's being developed by GameLoft, since their company's logo is displayed at the end of the video. It isn't surprising, considering that Gameloft's previous DS games, the Asphalt Urban GT series, have been praised for their graphics.
Over at GameFAQs, RayLancer posted quite a bit of feedback for this game. From the sound of things, it plays more like Medal of Honor than Brothers in Arms (No Squad control). Other impressions show that this game's single-player mode is very short, though it sounds like an overall solid game. Check out the topic here:
Ok, I played it for a bit, let me just say a few things about the game.
Brother in Arms, I love the series, however one thing let me down... there's no squad based control. Thats right... something that made BiA unique from other WWII shooters, its totally absent. Gone also is the first person view (the video and screenshots are a big giveaway), the entire game is played from 3rd person view. If you ever seen Resident Evil 4, you should know what I mean. The character is offcenter more toward the left, but aiming is done with the stylus, while the D-pad is movement with the L button for shooting. All other actions, like throwing a grenade into enemy tanks (highly fun btw), is done by pressing the action button on the stylus. The controls, are a bit sluggish. They're nothing like Metroid Prime Hunters, which could be a good or bad thing for certain people. Its just, the controls aren't too responsive. Gernade throwing takes a while to get used to since you use the stylus and move it up vertically to "lob" it. After a bit of practice, aiming it shouldn't be too bad. You can take cover behind certain objects which causes your character to automatically crouch. Around corners, you can jump out and fire and take cover behind the corner of the wall after you are done firing. Its kind of like Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter or Kill.Switch with its corner firing.
Weapons have unlimited ammo except for the bazooka. You just need to reload. You start off with the M1 Thompson, but are able to pick up the bazooka and M1903 (?) Springfield sniper rifle. I don't know if there are any other weapons, but for through 1 entire campaign, thats all you get. No M1 Carbine/Garand, no enemy weapons.
The graphics are nice, and what they did with the game is impressive. The explosions, the gunshots, the soldiers running around, it is a very impressive looking DS game. However, the DS hardware is limited and the game does show its limitation. There are occassional times when the firefight gets pretty intensive and the framerate starts to drop. (Well, one of the scene for example, had the DS rendering 4 soldiers on my team with a few Sherman tanks while trying to battle the enemy Nazis and their panzers, all while explosions were going off). The game does have its slow downs, but, nothing too serious.
There are some bugs and other nuissances with the game. Like on the last mission on Normandy, on the last mine you need to place by the bus, I ran up there to place it (using the action button), however an enemy tank rolled by and my character went ahead and jumped on the tank to lob a grenade into it. After it exploded, my character was stuck between the bus and the dead tank. What made it worse is the fact that its also where the checkpoint is at, so I had to restart otherwise I would die for the insane amount of fire from the enemy. Cover is kind of weird. Since you cannot crouch down, the game does it for you when you approach objects. While most of the cover makes sense, some does not make your character crouch, making you vulnerable to enemy fire. After you play through a few missions, you should be able to see what will give you cover. I wish there was a option to manually crouch instead.
This may sound like a lot of negativity from my part, and I think I nitpicked the game to death. However, I never said I didn't like it. I honestly thing its still a fun game despite some of its shortcoming. I wish the controls were a bit more responsive, that would be my main complaint. The game looks nice, and the gameplay is fun. You are almost never alone in the game as you are supported by your AI teammates. They may not be the smartest AI, but it helps with the immersion of the WWII battlefield.
I'll continue to post more feedbacks later, hopefully someone else can add more to what I said. Again, don't let my comments scare you. Its a great game, and its only my opinion anyhow.
