Watch some YouTube videos before you decide on picking it up.
It seems to have a very hit-or-miss reaction.
I bought mine in January (the Euro version in US English) and I dig it. You just have to know which sites work best with it. It runs plenty smooth for me when I use the small-screen-rendering (or whatever it's called), once you wait for each page to load.
So watch some videos of it in action. Sites with images will be deathly slow, so use common sense in watching videos that show text-based sites in action. Sites like CAG, for me, worked fine...especially when I turned images (sigs and avatars) off. Checking blogs, going to Yahoo, looking up directions, web-based e-mail, whatever...those are fine.
If you think you'll get some use out of those basic functions, and you don't mind not having some perfect handheld web-media solution in your browser, then you'll probably get some satisfaction out of the DS browser. Otherwise, if you expect too much, you're going to get VERY frustrated with it VERY quickly, because it's quite limited.
