Burnout Paradise vs. Burnout Revenge

Rooster752

CAGiversary!
Okay so I'm looking to get one of these games and I don't know which. I'm not totally interested in the online racing as much and I think I'm more interested in playing offline with friends on the same system. I remember doing a lot of things with burnout 2/3 like the crash modes and races. Did they ever add any of those features to burnout paradise with the countless updates, or am I better off going with Revenge to get more of that old school burnout feel? I haven't played any of them since burnout 3.

Burnout Paradise does not even have offline multiplayer, so it looks like your choice is pretty clear. If you want the oldschool Burnout feel, Revenge would be the best choice.

Paradise still a great game though, and the online component is pretty fun and works well. There is PLENTY to do in the singleplayer too. It helps to read reviews to decide which game you would like better.

Paradise has had 3 major updates to my knowledge, the latest added bikes (motorcycles)...for free. And they said there is more content coming in 2009 so you might want to consider Paradise based on the amount of content...

I preferred Revenge, as I prefer Crash mode and its brand of racing intensity, as it has set tracks.

Thanks a lot for the help. I have a 25 dollar gift card to gamestop so methinks I'll be getting revenge to play with the roomates. I love online multiplayer, but it still can't beat a room full of friends :)

Yeah Revenge is the way to go. I've played every Burnout game and sadly Paradise just didn't do it for me. easily the best crashes, but also the worst racing. AND NO CRASH MODE!!!!! Stupid stupid stupid.

Revenge is still one of the best 360 games I've owned. The biggest bitch I had with it was the load times, but those may be improved a bit now that you can install to HD. Anyone know? Regardless, it's absolutely worth it and should be the one you choose.

I've heard good things about Paradise (and I just picked it up yesterday from the BF Newegg sale) but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or use it as an XMas gift for someone. The demo wasn't nearly as fun as Revenge. People keep saying to give it a chance. That's about all I can say for it.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but Burnout: Revenge has to be the single most played game that I own for my xbox 360. I'm come close to completing the game and am considering purchasing Burnout Paradise.

I've been reading reviews and it seems like big fans of revenge were disappointed with paradise. Is this true?

I was at first, but then I just came to accept that "okay, this isn't Burnout Revenge; it's a different game."

And on it's own, while vastly different, Paradise is still goddamn terrific.

Same here, although I will still take Revenge over Paradise. I consider both of them to be in the small group of XBox 360 games I will probably never get rid of.

Paradise is really fun with a bunch of people online, even just fucking around. The people playing it don't seem to be as annoying as your average Call of Duty player either. Plus the DLC is decent.

You can't play them the same though. Revenge is a series of set events, Paradise lets you just roam around one big map, doing events when you feel like it. Running someone off the road the way you did in Revenge can wind up in you crashing in Paradise. As long as you are in a different mindset for Paradise, it's fine.

Most people love Paradise, but I am not one of them.

They removed a dedicated Crash mode, which was my favorite part of the older Burnout games. Paradise was a huge dissapointment for me. If you lost an event, you couldn't even restart it. you had to drive back to it.

I did not need or want an open world sandbox style Burnout game.

That said, they did support the game with alot of free updates, and even the paid DLC seems to be worth it. I am def in the minority in not liking this game.

Press right on the D-pad then hit restart last event.

They must have added that in a patch, because it wasn't there when I first played the game. But at least they fixed it, I'll give em props for that.

I'm on the side of that the open world racing is what hurts paradise. Sure, it's nice to explore the world and I'm fine with that, but when it comes to the actual racing, I don't know how many times the open worldness has caused me to screw up by either taking a wrong turn or think too long and I take no turns (I instead collide into a wall).

While I didn't play it on the 360 (and instead own it for the original xbox), I must say that I strongly preferred Revenge.

Had the Game since Day 1 and it was there since day 1.

I felt exactly the same. Just could never get into Paradise, the races were horrid -- felt like I needed a road map to figure out constantly where to go.

Revenge is old-school and a lot more fun IMO. Hopefully we'll see Crash mode return to the Burnout franchise at some point.

Single player Paradise is pretty dull compared to Revenge. A good multiplayer Paradise game is fantastic though.

Revenge is great for both single and multiplayer.

Really? They dumbed it down enough that it should be easy enough to race by the shortcuts until you learn the streets, routes, and shortcuts. The signs at the top flash when you should take a turn and it does it far enough in advance that it's impossible to miss the turn unless you're slow. Then there are the eight destinations (NE, N, NW, W, SW, S, SE, E) that every race/event ends at, so you should be able to easily learn the streets as you play it more. Then there's just the ability to drive around and learn the layout of the city that way.

i got paradise liek a month ago. compared to the n64 ame i played i was let down. not really a racer more than lets say fallout or oblivion free world type stuff meets racing games hehe.

anyways is revenge like need for speed underground or ridge racer(more of a arcade racer). i want a racer but sick of the sim crap all over the placee. n4s underground is like the last good arcade racer ive played in a while

just popped Paradise back into the tray a few days ago (offline) and realized a huge drawback. to me, it's a flaw.

the auto-update is cached, meaning if you haven't played Paradise online in awhile, the game itself won't read or prompt for the DLC content automatically.

what does this mean to me? for starters, the game itself ignores the expansion Big Surf Island (which I've purchased), and the legendary cars (also purchased). I'm also not able to access the bikes (offline) or any of the expanded content. the starter/selection menu is entirely gone.

the game acts as if the DLC does not exist! [even paid for DLC, wtf EA!?] all the ads also reverted back to 'COMP USA.' LOL!

Sounds like the DLC wasn't originally downloaded to that xbox. Therefore none of the DLC is recognized.

the DLC, game, auto-updates are all on the same unit. Paradise wasn't build to check for DLC, the 'check' is in the auto-update which is cached, which means once auto-updates for other titles push Paradise's out, even when 1.9 is on the same unit, the game won't look for the DLC automatically. weak programming imo.

well that fucking explains it! I was wondering if there was some contract for ad space that just never expired.

Paradise was a decent game, it was just a bad Burnout game. They took everything that was fun about Burnout, chucked it out the window and went for a reboot. Revenge is a far superior Burnout game. The open world was fine if you wanted to just dick around, but when you want to just race, it was miserable. I don't understand why they couldn't have just added a menu to scroll through race types and races. Driving around to find the race you haven't finished or race type you want to do is a huge waste of time.

Nope, not even close. Restart was added later, over a year later. Just Google "Burnout adds restart option."

That was one of my biggest peeves, and I had long since sold the game by the time it was added.

I thought everyone loved this game. I can't get enough - I still have like 60+ events to go before getting my Elite License and I only rule about 40/64 roads in the game but I'm not bored yet. My game time says I've logged over 40 hours which is a TON for me on any one game.
