Buy.com is now Rakuten.com?

Just got an email about this. Maybe people knew but I just found out. How strange.

I deleted something to that effect but didn't open the e-mail.

Did they give a reason why?

I would think that the web site "buy.com" would be 100x more marketable (and valuable) then rakuten.com...

maybe some web designer forget to extended their ownership on the domain name?

Looks like they were bought by the Japanese company Rakuten. They must think their brand is more well known overseas? Not sure why you would want to lose all that name recognition in the US.

Looks like Rakuten has been buying e-commerce sites around the world. They are the largest e-commerce site in the world I guess, that could be good or bad.

Edit-Sorry largest in Japan.

I think the Rakuten brand wants to be more like Amazon, as it is bigger than the latter in Japan.

Well count me out. I was never a big fan of buy.com but they did some decent sales on their eBay site. Now is just more reason to give them a pass.
