buying arcade stand ups - good idea?

Achilles

CAGiversary!
this is a question out in left field but does anyone own any stand up arcade games? i've been toying with the idea of buying a street fighter 2 arcade game - you can find them for a few hundred dollars on ebay.

but my question is.. is this a good idea? what if the original parts break down am i screwed? what about the buttons and joysticks, etc.?

I have two arcade machines... it's easy to replace buttons/sticks if you know what you're doing... just be rest assured if you do get one, there are tons of ppl out there that can help you fix it if you have any problems.

I have a Street Fighter II: World Warrior in a Sega Astro City 29 machine and I love it. :)

I had this big idea that I was going to build one out of wood and throw a PC monitor and modded xbox in it.

That idea went no where fast when my xbox broke, but its still up in the air if i can find anohter box.

i'm guessing the controls and fishbowl tv are replaceable with new/modern replacements if they break... but what about the motherboard and things like that?

thats exactly what i want... sf2:ww.. i want to shadow throw bison again.. haha

ive always wanted to get, and still plan on, getting a puzzle fighter arcade machine. i had an opportunity to get one about 6 months back for about 400 bucks, but i just didnt have the money at the time, i was quite sad.

Its a fine idea but don't expect to make any money off the buying and selling of arcade machines, arcade game prices seem to be in the gutter now, the big collecting rush happened around 1999-2000, its a good buyers market though, so if there is a game you want you can probably get it for a couple hundred unless its something rare and enjoy it!

I have a 4 slot MVS, all original parts outside a new 25 inch LCD screen. It was running great until a month ago, and then the joystick started messing up and now the D button on controller 2 isnt working.

[quote name='xcopy']Get a japanese cab, you wont regret it. They are sexy. Just look at mines. :D

That is very nice. There's some ugly SF3 art on top of it though, I'd have to scrape that off ;) .

I'd love to have an MVS inside a cab like that.

That's easy to fix and very quickly too. You can buy replacement joysticks/push buttons here.

If you need help just PM me. It took me about 10 minutes to redo my Control Panel today.

That's just the plexi marquee holder. It comes right out. Also you can't have an MVS in it without having to modify the jamma connector. ;)

Ha I thought that site said "lizarddick".

I would love to buy some arcade machines but all the ones I want are like... $30,000... And that doesn't exactly go with my "cheap ass gamer...ness."
