Buying Monitor - Advice Needed!

CAGiversary!
Hey, was hoping to get some advice on buying a new monitor. I'm looking to get something in the 22" range, under $200.

I've been looking at these monitors on costco.com but I'm not sure which one would be better, with such a minimal price difference and (from what I can tell) really good reviews on both.

Monitor 1

Monitor 2

If anyone can give some perspective as to which they think is the better of the two or if there's another monitor they can recommend, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

That Acer screen has me interested, although I noticed a few Newegg users complaining about backlight bleeding, which is something I'd like to avoid since I do a lot of image work. (I'd love to get a few Apple displays if they didn't cost 3x as much as anything else.) YodaEXE, have you experienced any lighting unevenness/bleeding issues with your Acer?

I wish I could check these out in a store but it seems like everyone only has Dells and Samsungs these days.

Also sorry for the thread semi-hijack -- feel free to respond in PM.

That's when you can see more of the backlight through the screen than you should. (Horrifying example here.)

I don't know if this is technically the same problem, but my current LCD is much darker towards the top. It's pretty uniform though and doesn't look like the image from the link. Nevertheless, it's something I don't want my next monitor to do.

Dell 2209WA

E-IPS panel which is far superior to TN junk.

Go to small business chat and tell them you were offered it for $212 with free shipping.

Weird they aren't working for me anymore either. The whole Costco site beyond the front page seems to be acting a little strange / really slow.

Agreed.

Sorry, what do those mean? Why is one better than the other? How do you know the difference?

There's some pretty detailed explanations of LCD panel technology there. An excerpt from the article:

. . . The IPS technology has always been better than TN Film in terms of color reproduction and viewing angles. In fact, S-IPS matrices leave no chance to other LCD technologies in the color-reproduction quality. They have soft and pleasant colors, which are natural and close to high-quality CRT monitors. That’s why nearly all LCD monitors for professional work with color are based on S-IPS matrices, starting from relatively inexpensive to hi-end models of the Eizo ColorEdge series with integrated tools for custom hardware color-calibration.

The viewing angles are a treat after TN matrices: you can’t notice any distortions of the image, sitting in front of an IPS matrix . . .

Also, here's some more info on the deal lanleague mentioned.

I'm using an NEC 20WMGX2 (with an AS-IPS panel), and I love it, but if I was looking for a new monitor today, I'd probably go with the Dell. Very impressive bang for the buck based on the some of the impressions I've been reading over at [H]ardforum.

That Dell does look nice, and it's only a little bit more than what I was looking to spend... I could probably swing the ~$212-$230+tax it appears to be going for.
