CAG license plates...

Not actual CAG license plates, but when I drove home today, I saw about 10 people with their tag saying CAG and then having random numbers 000. Since October is my month to get my tags renewed, I was kind of excited since these people had Oct. 07 stickers... so I go to get it, I had a special tag I didn't want anymore, and I get CAJ, which just plain sucks... anyway, has anyone gotten lucky enough to get their intials at random in a normal tag, or CAG... I should have waited for JAG

How do special license plates work? How many characters? Isn't there a website that lets you check availability on names? How much do they cost?

It's different in every state, but I did some volunteer work for a children's hospital here in Memphis (St. Jude) and got a discount... and there probably is a discount... but in Tennessee special license plates usually cost 29.99 more
