Is there a safe way to remove permanent marker writing from a disc? I had a good day at EB today, but the games were previous rentals and have marker writings on the disc, in silver for one and in black for two.
On the bright side, the rental place evidently did not rent out their cases or manuals, for the manuals are minty fresh, and the cases look good too, besides the EB stickers and number stickers that match the numbers written on the disc.
I scored
Vandal Hearts II - 14.99
Persona - 14.99
Persona 2 - 19.99 (disc was a bit scratched up for my liking, but oh well, it plays and now I don't have to be tempted every time I look at my sealed Persona 2)
Not bad
, especially since one of the 14.99 games was free. The clerk's facial expressions over the course of the 2 minute transaction was priceless (and if you, the clerk, are a CAG reading this, I'm sorry I got to the games before you).
Me: Can I see the discs before I buy?
Clerk: (with his best keanu impression) Whoah....
Clerk: I need to check to see if we still have these... (types on computer)
At this point, I can see the moral conflict playing out on his face- should I sell these games, or lie to the customer and buy them for myself. I swear, I gave it 50/50 odds that he would say they were out of all three games, and 80/20 odds that he would say that about at least one of the games. In the end, honesty/integrity/risk of losing job win out.
Clerk: yeah, we do... (shakes head)
He goes to the bin and flips through looking for the discs, and SLOWLY pulls them out, as if he were pulling his teeth to give to me. As he shows me Vandal Hearts 2 and Persona 1 discs, he says the discs look good, and since the cases look good too, these look like games from a collection well-taken care of. I agreed with that assessment, as the discs really did look pretty good, and I also noticed a profound sense of disappointment in his face. I think to myself that he now regrets telling me the truth about having these games. Unfortunately, the Persona 2 disc is somewhat scratched, and we both notice that these discs have permanent marker writing on them (Persona 2 also has a rental store sticker). Still...
Me: I'm surprised you had that game (Persona 2).
Clerk: Yeah, these must've just been traded-in. I get calls all the time from people looking for these games, and we never have them.
Then he sold me the edge card. He didn't even have to make his generic edge card presentation. At that point, I was so giddy I would have paid $20 for one.
Finally, as he puts the receipt in the bag...
Clerk: Your receipt's in the bag......
But I know you won't bring these back, so (he shrugs)
If he had asked, I would have given up Persona 1 for the clerk, since I once owned it and finished it; I felt a sense of Cheapass game hunting kinship with him.
Those three purchases made me feel so good that I didn't even feel bad when EB later screwed me at a different store while I was trading in some stuff before I pre-ordered Tekken. Did you guys know that a PS1 (original, bought on release day) has a trade-in value of $2? I mean, they paid me $11 today for Summoner and Gungriffon Blaze, but they give me $2 for a playstation?
But back to the point, anybody know if I can safely remove permanet marker writing from the discs?
