Can Playstation Store cards purchased in the US be used in Canada?

Title says it all...I was thinking of sending my nephew in Canada a PlayStation Network Store card for his birthday instead of American Cash he can't use, but was wondering if anyone knows if cards bought in the States will work in Canada? He tells me they don't sell the cards in Canada - which seems surprising to me - and then there is the whole monetary conversion issue. Any Canadians here know anything about this:bouncy:? Thanks in advance! :D
 
He can make an american account, use that to purchase the games and get the trophies and other crap on his real account.
