Can someone help me with a couple questions about PSO I & II?

I bought a used copy of PSO I & II for Xbox from a guy for 10 bucks, and I can't find a serial number anywhere. Am I going to need this to play the game online?

Also, I've got a guy who wants to trade me the GameCube version. I don't know if it has a serial number or not. If it does have a serial number and it's been used, can I still use it to create my own account online? And if it doesn't, is there any way for me to play this online? Also, will I still be able to use it to play backups? Thanks.

The Xbox version does not have a serial number to play online. It uses the Xbox number to identify the account.
 
So if the guy I bought the Xbox version from played it online, can I still open up an account with it online?
 
It uses your Xbox live account to play, so yes you can still play it. PSO on cube isn't worth "tons of cash" it goes for around $49. on ebay and ebgames.com has used ones with original box and instructions for $44. About the average price of any game. It is OOP, and a little hard to find, but as soon as they release the PSO Plus next month for the GC, the original one will see a major dip in price on ebay I'd wager.
 
Well, the reason that the Cube one is so expensive is because it's the only way to play GameCube backups (unless you have a Q), and I'm pretty sure that they won't include this capability in the new release. So I'm wondering if the Cube one could still be played online if it came with a used code, or without a code at all, and if it could still be used to play backups. Anyone got some answers?

Ok, but I want to know if I can re-use a serial that has already been used by someone else, to create my own account. I also want to know whether I can use the game to play backups under each of the following two circumstances:

1. I don't have the serial
2. I have the serial but it has already been used by someone else

I'm really starting to sound like a broken record here.
